check the wiring on the vehicle to and from the alternator. Usually, the alternator needs excite voltage or it won't charge. Also, There is a circuit from alternator to battery, if something wrong with that circuit, the battery won't be charged even though the alternator is working fine.
What is model year? I don't know if your alternator is computer controlled?
1.) check with alternate Monitor 2.) Check with alternate power supply 3.) Check with Alternate Video Graphics Card 4.) Check with Alternate Processor 5.) Check with Alternate motherboard 6.) Check with alternate RAM
sound like alternator faulty or drive belt could be slipping due to broke drive belt tensioner, check make sure alternator wires not damaged or disconnected. with the engine idling check alternator voltage out put at battery with digital volt meter, should be 13.5 - 14.5 volts.if not alternator faulty.also check alternator fuse before replacing alternator.turn off radio first before disconnecting negative battery cable,to remove alternator have the auto parts store check it out alternator before buying a new one.reason i say turn off radio first if you dont you will lock it out when you disconnect the negative battery cable.
SOUND LIKE ALTERNATOR FAULTY.IF ALTERNATOR BAD IT WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT TO FLASH.REASON CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASH YOUR ALTERNATOR OUT PUT VOLTS LOWER THAN 13.0 VOLTS.CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE, DRIVE BELT MAKE ALTERNATOR ELECTRICAL WIRES IN TACT NOT LOOSE OR DAMAGED.
SOUND LIKE DEAD BATTERY CHECK BATTERY VOLTS SHOULD BE 12.6 VOLTS IF NOT BATTERY DEAD.REASON BATTERY DEAD EITHER FROM OLD AGE OR ALTERNATOR FAILURE. FIRST TURN OFF RADIO AND REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. REMOVE ALTERNATOR HAVE A AUTO PARTS STORE CHECK OUT ALTERNATOR SEE IF ALTERNATOR FAULTY.IF ALTERNATOR OKAY BATTERY CABLES CORRODED CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE AND CHECK ALTERNATOR ELECTRICAL WIRES FOR DAMAGE DO THIS PROCEDURE ONLY IF ALTERNATOR YOU HAD CHECK OUT WAS OKAY.
Check your Main and Alternator fuses under the hood. The alternator fuse is connected directly to your alternator, and if it is blown the alternator will not charge the battery.
Also, check your alternator belt and check your wiring to and from the alternator for damage or shorts. Else, you may have gotten a bad alternator.
check belt tension, check power alternator field and armature windings according to specs (smaller wires going to alternator harness) check voltage drop on main alternator cable going to battery, less than 0.4 volts ok, check alternator ground (less than 0.1v ok) check if alternator is regulating voltage in alternator or by pcm computer, also check if vehicle has a load detector to increas rpm while under electrical load....
Yes in that case the alternator needs to be checked by the meter. It should show exact 12 volt.If its not showing exact voltage then the alternator is faulty. But if the alternator is checked ok then its a connection problem between alternator and battery. Also at local garages they have spare alternator. If possible, get the car checked with spare alternator before going for new alternator.
Thanks.Helpmech.
CHECK POSITIVE BATTERY FEED CABLE TO ALTERNATOR AND CHECK ALTERNATOR FIELD WIRING THEY ARE CLOSE TO THE ENGINE BODY. GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE GET SOME FLEXIBLE CONDUCT PLACE ALTERNATOR WIRES IN IT AND REROUTE WIRES THEY COULD BE RUBBING INTO BODY CAUSING SHORT BLOWING OUT ALTERNATOR.THE CADILLAC 4.6L AND 4.9L ENGINES THE ALTERNATOR IN A TIGHT SPOT CLOSE TO THE ENGINE WHERE THE ALTERNATOR WIRES CAN RUB BODY SHORT OUT.CHECK WIRES AROUND ALTERNATOR CAREFULLY.
