I drove my 1996 Cadillac Deville about 40 miles, and it ran great like always, then I cut it off...when I started it back up it spit and sputtered...then cut off... I let it cool over night and it started right up. it ran great ,,so then I drove it about 60 miles, and it ran great again.. when out the next morning and it started right up. went about 5 miles , stopped at store ,,came back out and it would not start... waited a couple hours, and it started right up...then it quit running on my way on to work...would not start again...few hours later it started right up...cant figure it out>
You need to find out what is missing when it won't start , spark - ignition system or fuel pressure . No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy
SOURCE: 1999 Cadillac Catera - 103,000 miles - cranks but no fire
Hello carol...from the symptons you describe more than likely it's the CPS (crankshaft position sensor.)
The CPS is a common problem on Cateras with these symptoms.
The sensor is a magnetic impulse type that sends a signal to the computer, the computer then triggers the fire signal. When the CPS gets weak, dirty or has low voltage the intermitten no starts occur. It will finally result in a no start at all...Please be aware that a lot of caddy dealers will and have overcharged customers for this common problem by ill advise and replaceing uneeded componets.
Good luck...i hope this helps and will fixya up.

I have a 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood and the cooling fans will not shut off....what is the problem?
SOURCE: 1989 cadillac deville. was running fine. then just
check to see if you have spark it could probably be that you have either a crank sensor issue or that the cap or rotor is bad
