Unbolt negative battery lead.
Remove outer primary cover.
Remove bolt on end of starter gear, remove gear and jack-shaft.
Unbolt positive cable from starter. Unhook other wire from starter.
Remove two bolts holding starter on.
Remove starter.

Reverse to reinstall.

WHAT STEPS DO I TAKE TO REPLACE A STARTER ON A TOYOTA COROLLA

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 4A-F, 4A-FE and 7A-FE Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly (with hose).
  3. Disconnect all the wiring from the starter terminals.
  4. Remove the starter mounting bolts. Remove the starter. To install:
  5. Attach the connector to the terminal on the solenoid switch. Connect the cable from the battery to the starter and secure with the nut.
  6. Place the starter in the flywheel bellhousing, tighten the mounting bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Check the starter for proper operation.
4A-GE Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the both engine under covers.
  2. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  3. Remove the electric cooling fan.
  4. Disconnect all the wiring from the starter terminals.
  5. Remove the starter mounting bolts. Remove the starter. To install:
  6. Attach the connector to the terminal on the starter solenoid. Connect the cable from the battery to the terminal on the switch and secure with the nut to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm)..
  7. Install the electric cooling fan.
  8. Install the front exhaust pipe.
  9. Install the left and right engine under covers.
  10. Connec the negative battery cable.
  11. Check that the starter works properly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the electrical connections from the back of the starter.
  4. Remove the bell-housing cover.
  5. Remove the starter support bracket bolt from the engine block.
  6. Unfasten the starter motor-to-engine bolts, then carefully lower the starter.
  7. Remove the nuts/bolts that hold the starter support bracket to the starter. To install:
  8. Transfer the starter support bracket to the new starter if the starter is being replaced.
  9. Raise the starter into position and secure the starter using the starter motor-to-engine bolts. Tighten the bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  10. Install the starter support bracket-to-engine bolt to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
  11. Install the bell-housing cover.
  12. Install the starter electrical connections on the back of the starter. Tighten the "S'' terminal to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm) and the battery terminal to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  13. Carefully lower the vehicle, then connect the negative battery cable.
2.3L (VIN D) and 2.4L (VIN T) Engines Fig. 10: When installing the starter, tighten the mounting bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm) on the 2.3L and 2.4L engines 87952040.gif
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  2. Detach the air inlet duct from the throttle body.
  3. Remove the top starter bolt.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the lower starter retaining bolt.
  6. If necessary, position the engine wiring harness aside.
  7. Position the starter to enable access to the solenoid wiring, then detach the wiring.
  8. Remove the starter from the vehicle. To install:
  9. Raise the starter to the vehicle, then attach the wiring.
  10. Position the starter, then secure using the lower starter bolt. Tighten to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm)
  11. If moved, reposition the engine wiring harness.
  12. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  13. Install the top starter bolt, then tighten to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  14. Fasten the air inlet duct to the throttle body.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.

How to replace starter

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove air intake resonators.
  3. Remove starter motor upper mounting bolts.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the nuts on the starter terminals and remove the cables from the terminals.
  6. Remove the two starter lower retaining bolts and remove the starter.
To install:
  1. Place the starter into position and tighten the 2 lower retaining bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs (20-27 Nm).
  2. Place the starter cables onto the terminals and tighten the retaining nuts to 80-124 inch lbs. (5-7 Nm).
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Install and tighten the upper retaining bolt to 15-20 ft. lbs (20-27 Nm).
  5. Install the air intake resonators.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine air cleaner assembly.
  3. Remove the fuel feed and return lines from the support bracket located on the accelerator cable bracket, and remove the fuel line bracket.
  4. On vehicles equipped with a automatic transaxle, remove the gear selector and the gear shift cable bracket from the transaxle.
  5. Remove the air cleaner support bracket from the engine and transaxle mount.
  6. Remove the nuts on the starter terminals and remove the cables from the terminals.
  7. Remove the starter motor-to-transaxle case retaining bolt at the rear of the starter.
  8. Remove the two starter retaining bolts and carefully lift the starter from the transaxle case while disengaging the alignment pins.
To install:
  1. Position the starter onto the alignment pins and onto the transaxle case.
  2. Install the two starter retaining bolts and the rear retaining bolt and tighten them to 15-21 ft. lbs. (21-29 Nm).
  3. Place the starter cables onto the terminals and tighten the retaining nuts to 80-124 inch lbs. (5-7 Nm).
  4. Install the air cleaner support bracket.
  5. If removed, install the gear shift selector and bracket.
  6. Install the fuel line bracket and install the fuel lines in the bracket.
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 240SX WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Support the transmission with a jack and remove the 4 rear mounting bracket bolts.
  4. Lightly lower the transmission to make room and pull out the dipstick tube.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Connector bracket from the front mount bracket
    • Harness connector
    • Starter bolts
    • Starter
    To install:
  6. Install or connect the following:
    • Starter
    • Starter bolts. Tighten the bolts to 30–37 ft. lbs. (40–50 Nm).
    • Harness connector
    • Connector bracket to the front mount bracket
    • Dipstick tube
    • Transmission into position
    • 4 rear mounting bracket bolts
  7. Remove the transmission jack
    • Negative battery cable
WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable

Starter replacement on 1997 dodge intrepid

Disconnect battery negative cable Remove and Install Battery Cable
Raise vehicle.
For easier servicing, do not remove the wiring from starter at this time.
Remove three starter attaching bolts from engine/transaxle Starter -
Remove starter assembly from transmission housing. Position the starter to gain access to the wiring connectors.
Remove the battery positive cable nut from starter and remove the cable Wire Terminal Connections .
Remove the starter from vehicle.
INSTALLATION

Replace an alternator on a 2005 chevy venture (instructions)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: This vehicle uses the PG260 F1 starter motor. The starter motor is serviced only as a complete unit.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable from the battery.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
  3. Remove radiator air baffle assembly.
  4. Remove the starter motor BAT terminal nut and electrical leads.
  5. Remove the starter motor S terminal nut and electrical lead.
  6. Remove the torque converter co
  7. Remove the starter motor bolts.
  8. Remove the starter motor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
  1. Install the starter motor.
  2. Install the starter motor bolts. Tighten the starter motor bolts to 47 N.m (35 lb ft)
  3. Install the torque converter cover.
  4. Install the starter motor S terminal electrical lead and nut. Tighten the starter motor solenoid S terminal nut to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
  5. Install the starter motor BAT terminal electrical leads and nut. Tighten the starter motor solenoid BAT terminal nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in) .
  6. Install radiator air baffle assembly.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Install the battery ground (negative) cable to the battery.
