I am trying to replace the battery and it seems there is no easy way to do this. The manual states that I need to remove the neg. cable from the frame. There is no way to get at it with the tools that I have. What a hassle to just replace the battery. Any suggestions.............
I have a 2005 XL1200C and have no problem getting to the battery. You need to remove the cover on the left side of the bike. It is held on by 3 plastic clips. 2 on top and 1 on the bottom. Remove the plastic electronic harness by sliding to the right. Use a socket to remove the bracket and take it off. Disconnect the positive cable and slide out. It will be slightly difficult to get to the negative but not impossible where you need to take it to the shop. When your done just put it back together. Easy as that. Trying to find a battery to fit it is another story. The only place I found 1 is at the dealer and it runs $117.
This is one of those jobs that there is no easy way to do it, be patient and you will eventualy get it.
This guy was right on, it should take you abou 10 whole mins. to get the battery out....and I found a replacement battery online at batterymart.com best part it was only $75.00 with shipping, at least $70.00 cheaper than your local Harley shop and at least $30-40.00 cheaper than anywhere else I could find....just have to wait abou3-4 business days to get it...well worth it
you get what you pay for -a Harley battery is an AGM battery, well worth the extra money in my opinion. I do not want anything like a wet acid battery anywhere near my bike.
