Vstar 650 classic. only will idle.

Vstar will only idle with choke all the way out. When I try to give it throttle it dies. It sat for a while in my garage before this problem started. I drained the fuel and changed the fuel filter. I srayed carb cleaner in the carbs. It does rev up when I spray cleaner in the carbs. But dies when given throttle. Any suggestions would be great.

It starts no problem and will sit there and idle, but once you give it gas it acts like its getting no fuel to the carb. the fuel filter is fine. but when you give gas to the carb it just dies

Hello and welcome
this is a very very commom problem after the cycle has gone over a storage period of anything over a month or so. what has happened is the deteriorated fuel has plugged the idle jet, and possibley other jetting. this is verified by pulling out the choke allows it to run. because this makes of for the loss of fuel the jets are not produceing. so to fix this you will need to remove the carbs and take out the jets and clean them thoroughly with a carb cleaner and possibly a very small gauge wire to break up builup. especially in the pilot jet. unfortunately fuel added carb cleaners dont seem to work for this kind of problem and to fix right they should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. thank you.

When I start my 2003 Vstar 1100 Classic, and as i give it throttle during ideling, it dies out? Also as im driving my bike and i come to a red light and i down shift and the idle lowers, it dies out, but...

There are a few quick things to try before cleaning the carbs.

1.Clean your air filter, it may be choking out, trust me a dirty air filter will choke out a bike.
2.Check your spark plugs. If they are black and sooty, change them out. Its quick and less expensive.

I diagnosed a 2001 Roadking Fuel injected. Ran like ****, hardly any throttle response, died at idle.
the customer said he just had it serviced a month ago at the dealer.
I pulled the plugs and they were nasty. The dealer forgot to change out the sparkplugs. It Happens
I Put in a new set of spark plugs and the bike ran like new.
I've fixed a bunch of bikes in the past and this one always stuck in my mind because of the difference in performance.

Try the sparkplugs, i think its more likely to be that than the air filter.

My bike hasnt been ridden for a few months, and you need to give it full choke to start and keep it going, it wont idle when the choke is depressed, It is A Vstar 650 Classic

was fuel left in the carburetors when you parked it your metering jets might be slightly clogged with varnish i dont recomend opening them yourself take it to a professional and next time you park it for an extended period of time close the fuel valve and leave the bike running until the carbs run out of gas "the bike will stop running when this happens"

2001 v star 650 classic won't idle after being stored

You have a gummed up mainjet. Always store a gas engine with Staybul gas additive to avoid this problem in the future. Now, on to the current problem. Since the bike will at least idle your in luck. Just go down to an auto parts store and get a can of Sea Foam. I usually find it at NAPA it's a white can that looks like it came from a gas station in the 1940's Because it did. Mechanics have been useing it for years. Anyway, dump about half the can in the tank with a couple gallons of gas and fire it up. Let it idle a long time. Then start trying to ride it. You may have to let it set over night if it's really gummed up but it will clean it out. Easy fix, and you can leave it in with no problems. Happy motoring.
