What does the flash code mean on my speedo?

I have a 2006 Yamaha vstar 1100 motorcycle. When I turn on the ignition, the engine light (on the speedo) flashes 1 long and 5 short. What does this mean? I neglected to advise that the engine turns over but will not start.

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: vstar 1100 yamaha will not idle, only runs with full choke

You will most likely find that your Air Cleaner element is blocked & possibly may have sucked up some leaves reducing air flow.

SOURCE: 2000 yamaha vstar 1100 custom. starter problem?

I had the same problem 2001 XVS1100 Custom
this is a starter issue Over time the starter on this bike twists when its under a load.
Look at the two bolts holding the starter on if they are not straight across then its twisted. turn starter back in line with a pair of big channel locks and try to start this should do the trick if this works i would recommend taking the two bolts out and bend them back straight or replace and reinstall starter this should fixya problem

Hope this helps ...............Jimmyfixya

SOURCE: 2006 Yamaha Vstar custom starter issue

The one way clutch that engages the starter motor to the flywheel is chattered or damaged and needs to be replaced. The starter motor turns a small gear that is connected to a large gear by a small chain. On the side of the big gear is a smooth machined surface that the one way clutch grabs when the starter is engaged. The surface is chattered and the three grabber rollers wont jam or grab on the surface unless it is smooth therefore the starter spins but the motor does not. You will probably have to replace the large gear and possibly the three rollers also.

The check engine light on my 2009 Yamaha Vstar 1100 only comes on when it reaches about 55 mph. What could be causing it do that?

Take the bike to the shop to diagnose, more than likely it is a Throttle Position Sensor. It could also be a blocked fuel filter starving the engine. Only the mechanic can obtain the codes and point you in the irght direction.

Check engine light is on

you have a trouble code,to get the code push in and hold speedo reset button and turn ignition on speedo will read diag. release button and push again to see the code, make sure you write them down then clear them out by pressing and holding the button. Then after you record them and erase them turn ignition off. then turn ignition on again and off then check the speedo again and if any of the same codes come back it is a current trouble code
