Changing/fixing front blinkers

My left front blinker when driving is very finicky. Sometimes i have to shove it hard over to the left to make it come on and othertimes it has to be barely pushed at all. MY right one is fine, and also when parked both work perfectly. So i'm wondering is this could be a wiring issue? i have oem parts to replace both of them but for the life of me can't figure it out. Any suggestions or websites that would help? :/

Look at the connectors on the indicator wiring harness. The connectors are not up to Aviation standards. And a bike of that age will usually have corrosion in the connectors.

SOURCE: Color code for turn signal wires

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Honda in general uses standardized wiring scheme:

  • green - common ground;
  • light blue - right turn signal;
  • orange - left turn signal.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

I have a 1999 Honda Shadow ACE, when I turn on the ignition key the head lights don't come on, just the parking lights. When I tried the ignition switch nothing happens. The battery was replaced recently and I rode it the previous day. I checked all the fuses and they are fine.

SOURCE: 92 nighthawk LED blinker problems.

Honda always grounds the turn signals separately (usually a green wire)not directly to the frame.Not hooking up the running light should not effect anything except forward visibility to other motorists. If you have a two prong flasher relay, go get a cheap flasher relay ($5-$10) and replace it. The only problem I have ever heard of when switching to LED turn signals is a flicker / fast flash instead of a normal slow flash. This is remedied by adding diodes to the wires.

SOURCE: I HAVE A 1997 HONDA

If you have changed the blinkers over to LED lights , you need to put diodes on the wires to stop the fast flash. Honda turn signals Have to grounded to the green ground wires in the harness. You can not ground them to the frame or other wires or the flasher system will not work correctly. Double check that all the wires are connected to the harness correctly (They are color coded). Blue with white band is the same as blue with white stripe. Orange with white band is the same as orange with white stripe. If you have crossed the wires on the front turn signals you may be powering the rear turnsignal with the running light. The running light is the dimmer half of the bulb. The turn signal/flashing light is the brighter side of the bulb. Inspect your wiring carefully.

My left front blinker flashes quickly. - The left

Check for power at the socket. If there is no power I would suspect the flasher relay wich supplies power to each bulb individually after it gets the right or left signal from the switch.

Left blinker is fast front blinker light working left rear blinker light not working.

When a turn signal bulb is blinking fast, it is an indicator that a bulb is bad in the system. Replace the left rear turn signal bulb, then see if the left front blinker has gone back to normal. This is most likely your problem. Let me know if it is still a problem and i will help you fix it. Good luck

Fast Blinker

Usually a fast turn signal means that there is a light out. You should probably check all of your lights, including back-up lights, and turn signals. If there is one out then replacing the burnt out bulb should fix the problem.
