Battery Will Not Stay Charged

SOURCE: I have a 1998 Suzuki

Sounds as if your charging system is not operating, OR you have a short somewhere in your wiring. Might try charging the battery to full charge, crank the bike and while at idle, put voltmeter on the battery. Read the voltage, then, move throttle to high idle and see if there is an increase in volts. If not, charging system is problem. Might want to check all your fuses and any circuit breakers you may have.

With the IGN switch off, the only electrical device directly connected to the battery is the regulator. If the battery would not hold charge/discharging, then this would be the most likely suspect. Two ways to confirm/check:

• with the key off, spark test. Remove the + terminal. If there is significant spark then a electrical device is consuming power. To zero in on the regulator, disconnect the connector to the regulator and try the spark test again;
• after a run and the engine has cooled sufficiently, the regulator would still be very warm.

You need to have stator coil tested.
An alternate problem could be the regulator/rectifier.
Both of these should tbe checked by a dealer

Sounds like a charging issue. First check all wires and make sure they are clean and making good contact, then check for proper voltage at the battery. I ride a harly so I don't know the exact voltage to look for but it most likly is around 13V at the battery if it isn't you need to look at your voltage regulator and stator.
