Did you drain the carburetor at the end of the season, or shut off the gas valve and run the carburetor dry? If not, the issue is probably varnish and gum from the evaporated gas plugging up the carburetor. You will have to pull the carb apart and clean it.
TO ALL VN1500 OWNERS....This once happen to me, I went to the garage to start the bike "Nothing ""The first thing is the lights are bright but no turning over,Next you think the solenoid is kaput but the answer was very simple and the fix takes 30 seconds.. Do not take the bike to bits looking for other problems and look at the clutch leaver and you will see some wires going into a plastic shroud going into the switch in the clutch leaver, Make sure this has not popped out if its connection as it some times may do after a few years due to constant turning on the handlebars, When this is not connected you will have a bike that will not fire up but comes alive and you will hear a clicking noise but this is from the engine carb area and every function of the bike will work but it will not turn over, Worth looking at and saves sixteen quid for a starter unit you never needed.
u dont if its injection-computer shud doit by default unless theres issues in the system--is the spark plug tite on that cylinder or does it come out the carb/throttle body--purchase a shop manual for troublshootn
could be a sticky needle and seat, or float level. First try tapping on the carby bottoms with a screwdriver handle, sometimes this can dislodge a partical of dirt causing the problem. If not, then the carby will have to be removed and taken apart. This is a common problem if your bike has been in storage over winter.
Back firing is often a sign of a lean mixture, more than once I've delt with carbs thinking all was well only to find a small blockage. Did the bike by chance sit with gas i the carbs for a time before this problem showed up? If so, try carb cleaner and lots of compressed air in all the openings especially the idle jet passages. Does not take much to make a difference. Hope this helps. Not always the cure but a good palce to try and very little cost if you do the work yourself.
