2005 yamaha yzf 250-unstable idle

Bought bike used, not ridden much, could not get to idle, suspected problem in carb pilot jet, took apart and cleaned carb, pilot was plugged, cleaned carb with spray cleaner, got flow through every port we could find. bike now idles ok sometimes, then sometimes revs higher, like on a fast idle. bike backfires, acts like running lean. messed with pilot jet adjustment, got to run a little better, but something still aint right. got carb pulled back apart now. ideas?

Just bought it yesterday, my tzr 250 was going sweet today it wont idle. its all good if i hold it at about 2500 rpm any lower and it dies. also when i put it in 1st and try to take off it sounds as if...

When a bike sits the first thing to check is the pilot jet. It has the smallest hole and clogs the easiest. When it clogs you lose idle. Open the carb and look for a small hole next to the main jet, the pilot sits up inside. You need a narrow screwdriver to get up in there. Be sure you have a good fit so as not to strip the soft brass jet. I use a guitar string of the right diameter to clean out the hole. The varnish can be very hard, get it back to brass without removing metal is tricky. Squirt cleaner up into hole where the pilot goes with jet out. It should squirt through into carb air passage. Check float and float needle for cleanliness and smooth movment.Reassemble and try again. Good luck.

Take to long to start.. takes almost ten minutes of kick starting... electric starter wont turn over to start bike yamaha ttr 125

The TTR-125 Carburetor's Run Lean by design. Mine had the same issues till I found a post on Thumpertalk.com on Carb and air box Mod. This is a good starting point on gets; 110 and 112.5 main and 17.5 pilot. But you must check spark plug coloring to make sure the jetting is correct. Check spark plug after the bike has been ridden for a wile. I also took out the stock baffle and replaced it with exhaust tip and now it fires up after a few kicks and worms up in a few minutes.

Poor idling, lumpy, uneven. even when idling screw is turned up it is still lumpy.

You need to take your bike to a shop and have them do a carb synch, Possible carb clean. You might have partially clogged pilot jets, or idle jets. Chaz Moto DC

Almost like getting no gas

How long has the bike been sitting?? From what your saying i would start with cleaning the carb. as gas sits it will gum up and block you jets. the carb in bike and most bike have 2 jets pilot and main the pilot the is idle jet and is hooked into the air/fuel screw. it is the smallest of the jets that pick up gas. when you have your choke on it lets the gas " bypass the pilot and feeds gas to the motor when you turn it off it is all up to the pilot jet and if it is gummed up your bike will not idle.

1983 rg 250 gamma mk1 import would only run with choke on now wont start at all?

Hi,
Your plugs are probably dripping with an unburnt gas mixture/residue if you've ridden the bike any serious distance with the choke on.

Change your plugs, don't just clean them, Change Them...

Check your idle jet in your carb. Clean it, carefully.

Good Luck and Let me know...

YAMAHA TTR 250 cherry red exhaust

Because the timing is off. If the timing is too advanced, or too retarded, it will make your exhaust pipe cherry red.

2000 yzf R6 inconsistant idle under choke cuts out when punched

Yes. Sounds like main jets are blocked. Gas will start to varnish after a couple of months. This builds up over time and sticks the main jets. Go to this website and select discuss this bike.http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_yzf-r6_2000.php
