    yes both are new

  • rustylove Mar 09, 2009

new plugs new wires, new cap and rotor, new coil and ignition module. no exhaust work and cats are good... replaced fuel filter when i replaced fuel pump about a month ago. its a 7.4 litre 454. standard transmission.

having much more serious problems now any way. cant accelerate, bogs out. i posted it seperately when i did this one. anyway engine is a 454. and yes cats were cleared out when i got it. there is no high idle but i will check compression. might be fixin to pull whole thing if it keeps it up like it is . replaced plugs wires cap rotor coil and ign module in past few days . it has not gotten even a little better. thank you for your suggestions if you can think up anything else to try im all ears

well i feel pretty silly at this point. pinched fuel line at tank. i guess when i put pump in a few weeks i wasnt careful when i put tank back up. thank you very much for taking the time to help with my problem. i guess you should always check last repair before assuming that every thing went right and it has to be something else

    what size engine?

check timing , airflow sensor, did you remove cat converter? , sounds like exhaust leak, whats the mileage replace fuel filter

  • Anonymous Mar 09, 2009

hmm i would next get the engine compression tested, may be a bigger problem, its a throw up at this point between compression and clutch problems. since im not fimilar with the internal operations of this clutch , i can only say to check compression. mabey take to a mechanics and check out the clutch operations. if it has a high idle it may be cltuch.

    computer check? maf sensor?

hey im telling you the hardest problems to fix are the ones caused by people working on a machine and they dont even realize it. i always go back over my work when im running into trouble. The first question you should ask people on this site, "what have you done so far to try and fix this problem?"

5.9l. When shifted into reverse, why is it backfiring and cutting off?

Faulty ignition components or spark plugs may also cause backfires if the ignition timing drifts off or the plugs fire intermittently. An exhaust leak such as broken welds or other small holes can take in cool air during deceleration and cause a popping or backfiring in the exhaust system.

Truck backfires at even throttle

check for leaking injectors and vacuum leaks as there is fuel getting into the exhaust system and igniting. check ignition timing as it may be retarded too far.

It would depend on where the extra fuel is coming from. Could be a list of things including a faulty injector or fuel pressure regulator.

What causes the 22re to pop and backfire when trying to accelerate?

Check and adjust ignition timing first. Next if you have an overhead cam check the valve timing as it may be out a tooth

Backfiring

The backfiring on deceleration is typically associated with a loose timing chain.

If you put a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt, turn the balancer gently until you feel the chain tighten, then rotate the opposite way until it tightens, how far does is move.
If it goes more than an inch, it is getting sloppy. If it moves closer to 2 inches, it is worn out.
Try that first then let me know and we can go from there.
Good luck.
