I have a 2005 vtx 1300 and it really back fires alot. Is this a problem with the fuel or carberator

I bought a 2006 VTX with aftermarket pipes and it seems to backfire a lot too.Thinking it might have something to do with the change in back pressure.

Hi TJ,
There are a lot things tht may cause backfiring.
It could be due to the timing being incorrect.
It can also be due to the gas having water in it.
When did you start facing this problem?,suddenly, or after some reapirs or was the bike stored for a longtime ?

Popping or back fire at low speed or rpms

You could have bad fuel.
You could have a plug wire bad or with water / condensation try removing wire and shooting a little w-d40 on it.

I have a vtx 1300. it sat for 2months during

hi,sounds like you have a blocked main jet in one of the carbs, when the fuel sits in the bowls it will evaporate and leave behind a residue that is quite difficult to remove even with a carb cleaning compound, what i do in this case is remove the carbs, remove all the jets, place all the jets in a saucer or dish and fill with petrol, leave them for a few days, this will soften the residue, then use compressed air or a crc typecan with carb cleaner and force clean them by squirting the fluid through them,do not use(as some people do) a piece of wire to clean through them, this will scratch the inside of the jet and alter the fuel flow charicteristics of the jet and render it all but useless, once you have them all absolutely spotless, reassemble and put the carbs back in,just about put money on it that your problem will dissappear, hope this helps...cheers

Bike is back firing and black smoke is comming out of pipes on indle. It has Cobra speedsters exhaust system.

Black smoke could be unburnt fuel .Check your air cleaner unit it may need a change .And also check that your plugs and you have a spark on all plugs .

Back fires when i let off the throttle

That's most likely caused by the PAIR valve system. Read up on how to solve that on VTXCAFE.com. I did this on my 2007 VTX 1300C

2007 vtx 1300 R idles good ,starts good - but back fire when accel

a back fire is to much fuel going down the exhaust and igniting, if you changed the exhaust pipes or allterd the air cleaner you will need to get it set up on a dyno . the air flow meter could allso be playing up a dealer repair really.

I have a 2005 Honda VTX 1300 that will not start. It motor turns but won't fire. The lights work and are bright. The kill switch is off and there is gas in the tank. What could it be?

Firstly, have you checked for spark?? Is there fuel to the carb?? Is the vacuum line to the fuel valve OK?? If the motor turns, then your kill switch is OK. Check the "basics" first then let us know what your results are and we can move forward
