High idle air intake gasket I have a 95 chevy blazer with a 4.3 litre engine. It has a high idle. It runs at 1200 when starting in the morning and around 1700 when engine is warm. Today i totally blocked the air intake and it didn't stall the engine, which i think it should do. Then i used a propane torch and open it without lighting it, i held it were the air intake cover meets the engine, and then the engine speed went up. Does this mean i've a leak in the gasket and need to replace it? Thanks
Spraying brake cleaner around the intake gasket increased the RPM on my engine, and when i took it apart i noticed that the gasket was broken. I installed a new one and the engine runs like it supposed too. HI!!! first try this get brake cleaner.go little bylittle spraing all around the intake if run normal and changes the rpm.you have intake leak' o change idle sped sensor

This darn little engine just keeps going. ... I have a 2003 chevy blazer and the oil cooler line from the oil filter to ... I have a 95 Chevy s10 v6 vortec 2wd that is slightly dripping oil out of agasket ... I'm having same problem 2001 Chevy Blazer 4x4 (not xtreme) not sure if those same bolts are missing on mine.
On over heating an engine there are several items that tend to warp from the heat. The intake manifold required a new gasket so a good place to start would be checking for a vacuum leak in this area as it will alter the idle rpm from incorrect air/fuel ratio mix. Run fault codes to see if any sensors were affected by the over heating engine.
when cold idle is going, listen to intake manifold with hood open. This will involve getting real close to the intake side of the engine. If you hear a whistle or air draw from anywhere around the intake, there is an air leak to the engine. The intake manifold gasket maybe cracked allowing air to bypass the intake sensors at cold when the gasket is closed. But when it warms up, the gasket allows air to bypass the intake and causes a stumble, pause at partial throttle or a wondering idle. If you increase the idle speed, it confuses the cpu and causes the engine to run eratic.
concerned about nothing
the ECM sets the high idle rpm on starting so that there is sufficient air / fuel mixture to keep the engine running while it does a tune up and checks all the sensors
when the sensors are all reporting within parameters , the idle speed will drop back
should settle at around 850-900 rpm
as for the fan noise
if you have a viscous fan hub( not electric ) that is the fan locked in high temperature mode and will stay there until the liquid silicon is pumped back into the reservoir
usually takes about 1 minutes and indicates a properly operating fan
as the silicon is being pumped back the fan rpm slows down with a reduction of fan noise
If anything raises your concerns , you have an on board fault recording system that you can access at any time using a scan tool
get in the habit of having the fault codes read at each service or when you feel something is wrong as it will save you lots and lots of cash by not guessing repairs
I had an 89 Chevy Silverado with a high idle problem, A lot of money later and a lawsuit against a repair shop that said they fixed it and they didn't caused early engine failure and they wind up paying for a new engine. Long story short, I found out the main cause was I had to replace the throttle body gasket because it was bad causing more air intake and the on board computer tried to compensate for the air by adding more fuel therefore, high idle. I hope this helped.
in order for the engine to pop back in the intake it has to be firing when an intake valve is open. The best place to start would probably be the distributor cap replacement.the toughest part of this job is the smal torx bit screws on the cap and not breaking the distributor. the screws were threadlocked ,and the distributor is made of plastic.be careful not to over tighten.
depends on whether its leaking coolant or air, since both run through intake. if leaking coolant, you will see coolant leaking from either the front or rear of the intake itself. it can also leak into the engine, causing coolant to mix with the oil. if its leaking air, usually a small leak will present more when the engine is cold, with rough running or high idle. a large leak will run rough all the time, but should be able to hear air hissing if large enough. a vacuum leak from the intake will sometimes present as a check engine light, with codes p0171 and/or p0172, depending on whether the leak is on one side or both.
sounds real easy either a bad idle air control solenoid or more likley a blown throttle body gasket. to test fro a blown gasket, with engine running and cool spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around base of tb were it bolts to intake. when it hits the bad area, should idle down and be normal for a second or 2. iac is possible, try this first since its so common and let me know
CHECK FOR A LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, USE A CAN OF CARB SPRAY AND SPRAY AROUND THE TOP OF THE ENGINE, IF U HIT ON A LEAK U WILL HEAR THE ENG CHANGE TONE AND IDLE RPM.
Spraying brake cleaner around the intake gasket increased the RPM on my engine, and when i took it apart i noticed that the gasket was broken. I installed a new one and the engine runs like it supposed too. Thanks
