Feb 7, 2007 - Sometimes when I press the gas pedal seems like nothing happens car doesn't accelerate at all only it loses the power and finally comes to a Stop, and sometimes it recovers (shakily) and keeps on truckin'. ... Check the idle position sensor.

have you fuel pressure check for steady pressure normally 45 to 60 lbs and steady not fluctuating.

i would check fuel pressure key on engine off should be around 40 psi if thats good it sounds like bad IAC valve idle air control valve

It can be low fuel pressure issue or clogged fuel pump. Or its engine related issues,---------------

If it's fuel-injected, you may need to have the injectors cleaned, and also, any air filters should be changed at the same time along with gas filter/s. If it's carbureted, the same as above, but have someone clean the carburetor completely. Make sure all air hoses are attached correctly, securely and NOT broken. If broken, replace them.

On modern day cars the parts that get fitted need to be adapted to the ECM using a decent diagnostic machine. I bet that this was not done and the car is now suffering as a result.
Something to try is resetting the ECU, simply disconnect battery for 10 minutes, reconnect, then start car from cold *without touching gas pedal* and leave idling until the rad fan comes on (this resets all the base idle settings) then take it for a drive - hopefully will solve the problem

Had a firebird act similar to that had a bad coil pack replaced it the spark plugs and wires and ran fine.

Most likely it is running too ritch. should be around 7%. Mine did ecactly the same thing and I had several things done . Had the throttle body cleaned and installed a O2 senser.runs great now.
