MP3, IPOD, CD doesn't appear when I press "Source"

Step 1:
Attach a USB connector to the iPod and plug it into a USB connection on a computer for power, or into a stand alone USB charger plugged into a power strip for electrical power. Pick up the iPod. Move the "Hold" switch at the top of the iPod to the "Locked" position so that an orange color appears by the switch. Return the switch to the "Unlocked" position. Repeat this process. Press and hold the "Home" button and the button at the top right corner together if using a fifth generation iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Mini or iPod with a click wheel. Press and hold the "Menu" button and the "Play/Pause" button together if using an iPod Touch. Press and hold the "Menu" button and the "OK" button together if using an older iPod. Continue holding the buttons together until the screen flashes and then displays the iPod name and the Apple logo. Release the buttons. Wait as the iPod resets itself and turns itself back on. Leave the iPod connected to the USB connector so that it can fully charge the battery. Remove the iPod from the USB connector. Navigate to a song using the menu selection and play some music

Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of your iPod. Plug the other end of the iPod USB cable into a free USB port on your Mac or PC. Open the iTunes application by using the dock icon on a Mac or the start menu on a PC. Click on the name of your iPod under the "Devices" list in the main iTunes window. Click on the "Sync" button to create a connection between the computer and the iPod. Click on the eject symbol after the syncing process is complete, and then unplug your iPod from the computer. you can try this: the iPod should be fully charged

• 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
• 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If not working, verify you have the latest iTunes then:

• 1 Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
• 2 After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes.
• 3. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
• 4. Click the Restore button.

If nothing works, it can be the hard drive, so if you feel like it, crack open the iPod and unplug the drive, then replug it gently and start it up. It worked with mine with the same kind of issue.

Reset Click Wheel Ipod (newer ipods including resetting an ipod video)
1. Flip the Hold switch on and off and make sure it ends up no longer on hold.
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons (center Button) until the Apple logo appears (may take 5-11 seconds, and you may need to repeat this step)
If this not work for you try plugging your ipod into computer or wall power


Resetting iPod (with dock connector)
Most problems with iPod can be solved by resetting it.
To reset iPod:
1 Connect iPod to a power outlet using the iPod Power Adapter.

Looks like the software just hanged-up on you. Try to reset the Ipod by following the procedures below.

1st option:
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until the Apple logo appears).
You may need to repeat the reset several times.
If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.

2nd option (Disk Mode):
Plug the iPod into a high-powered USB port, let it sit for 2 hours, then disconnect it. If you have a wall charger, plug in the iPod, then follow these steps while it is still plugged in.
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears
Immediately switch your figures to press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until "Disk Mode" appears at the top.
For a lot of people, this solves the problem. Connect the iPod to the computer and (assuming it shows up) reset the iPod again to get it out of Disk Mode. If at this point you still have the white screen, restore the iPod using the restore function in iTunes under the Summary tab (this will erase everything on the iPod and put it at factory settings).
Note: Do not disconnect or eject the iPod until the store is totally done. After you think it's done, wait another five minutes.

1. First make sure that your iPod’s hold button is of. (This is the little switch at the top left corner).
2. Move the hold switch to the on position and then move it back to off.
3. Hold down the Menu button on the clickwheel and the center button at the same time. Hold these together for 6-10 seconds. This should restart the iPod. You’ll know the iPod is restarting when the screen changes and the Apple logo appears.
