I am trying to replace my stock clutch lever on a 2004 GSXR 600 and want to make sure I am doing it properly. I am also going to replace the brake lever as well. Any help is appreciated

Make sure you have petrol, if plugs and fuses are OK do lights work?
If you turn on the lights do they remain bright? Have you made sure the engine stop switch is in the run position. Is the stand switch working OK also is the clutch switch working? Do you have to pull the clutch lever in to start the bike normally if so this could mean the switch at the clutch lever stock is faulty, or come loose. Find the 2 wires that go into the clutch stock and gently pull on them nothing should move. If the wires pull out with the switch connected to them, push the switch back until it clicks. If everything seems OK in that area try spraying some lube between the clutch lever and stock the switch plunger might be sticky and not coming out properly.
This sounds like heavy duty springs in the clutch. Just have to get used to it. I suspect this is a cable actuated clutch correct? If it isn't then that does sound a little strange. Usually hydraulic clutch lever action is pretty easy... Good luck HDTV GURU JAY
The part number for the stock lever is 57620-27A31. If you do a search on that part number at any of the online dealers that have the microfiche online you will see that exact lever is also used on some other bikes. DL650 2004-2009 GSX600/750 1998-06
You need to loosen the adjustment at the inside of the lever as loose as you can, then use the slack in the cable to bring the holder down and out a small slot in the lever. You should not have to disconnect the cable at the transmission end but if you still find it impossible to remove, doing so will give you a bit of extra slack too.
It depends on weither or not you have any aftermarket stuff put on the bike. My 600 will do 182 but that is with a power commander, acceleration kit, k&n air induction kit, k&n filter, and having it dyno tuned. My buddys stock 600 will do about 166 mph
