Bmw r1150 gs gearbox

Its a 2000 bike, and I can select up gears and down one gear but can't go down another gear after that unless I drive the bike hard. Example, I select 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd, then 4th, then 3rd, then cannot select 2nd, can select 3rd again, then 4th, then 5th, then 4th but cannot select 3rd. The only way I can get the bike down gears into 1st again is by driving the bike hard and then selecting the gear I'm having trouble with, then again driving hard to sellect the next lower gear position and so on until I get 1st. Any ideas whats wrong?

SOURCE: 2nd gear does not work on my Yamaha Virago xv250

Sounds like a slightly bent shift fork. The slider gear isn't quite engaging into 2nd. If the bend gets worse then you won't get into first and the pedal will get real stiff in those gears. The repair is best done in the shop.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

SOURCE: i have a 1996 kx 250 that will not select 4th gear

Selecter forks could be damaged, gear shift shaft bent, return spring faulty, clutch dragging maybe! Try rocking it backwards and forwards engine off and see if you can find that gear! Good Luck - The Yeti

Sounds more likely that you have a corroded gearshift pivot. Take apart the footrest/gearshift assembly, clean with a wire brush & lubricate

SOURCE: 'Sticky' gearbox on 2004, 1200 Bandit

Have had the smaller brother of this bike, here is what I found, try using 10W40 full synthetic oil, make sure the clutch is adjusted exactly right, if that doesn't help the engagement dogs are worn and u need an overhaul, which isn't that hard, about 10 hours work and $200 in parts.

Why bike will not move in any gear?

This is a bit vague.. If engine is running an you select a gear but nothing.. I would look to the drive between the crank and gearbox.. this goes via the clutch and could be the issue..
This sounds dumb but check the obvious.. start at the back wheel and work back.. check chain and front sprocket.. then ensure you can select gears and then clutch and primary drive..

Just changed the battery in 04 R1150 gsa. Now it runs very rough. What did I do wrong?

To change the battery, you have to remove the fuel tank. In doing so, you are disturbing the throttle cable on the RHS and pulling it out of its housing.

This is what it should look like.
