Must have a short, is it fitted with an alarm? also make sure it is charging the battery in the first place and isn't just draining it as you ride.

The scooter does not have an alarm. The alternator is not charging the brand new battery. I think it may be the ignition switch, however I am not sure how the switch is supposed to respond with low battery power. The alternator peaks at 13.4v when the engine is running, but the battery voltage drops below 6v after the engine is shutoff.

I'm afraid that sounds like the battery is as fault

...it is a 12v battery fitted not a 6v? to take a 12v battery down below 6 volts means more than half the cells are dead. Anything causing such a drain would be obvious by getting hot. Final checks before your return the battery: 1. check electrolyte levels in the battery. 2. when the leads are disconnected from the battery, ensure ignition is off, check continuity to earth on any of the leads on the positive terminal it should be open circuit.

Hi if a scooter keeps draining the batteries over a period of time could it be the controller.

It can be simpel if your battery is overcharged it will cause leaking. The battery Gers hot. So Yes it can be your controller. Check your loading capacity is it over 14 volts. Replace a new a new battery. If its the same change your controller. You can get a lot of parts bij GoParts.eu maybe also this controller.

You should replace the fuel also as fuel deteriorates over time.Drain the tank and replace with new fuel. Also drain the carb.as it will still have old fuel in it.

My Aprilia Mojito stopped working after I hadn't ridden it in over 6 months so I took it to the mechanic and they replaced the battery, rewired all the dash wires (believing they were draining the battery)...

hi, i beleive you have spent alot of money on this scooter, and for not much more you could have bought another machine, it sounds to me like the problem is with the electrics, as you say your mechanic has instaled a switch to cut of the power from the battery when the bike is not in use, this should not be the case as when your key is turned off there should be no drain on the battery at all, so i would sugest instead of fitting a switch, find out the reason for the battery drain and correct the fault, if you have a drain on the battery this may be a contributary factor in the poor starting, normaly modern bikes like yours require no opening of the throttle while starting, the whooing sound you mention could be the starter throwing out,and not engaging, because of the batteries low state. recharging the battery as many times as this is not good for the battery i would sugest obtaining a new battery from another agent, put the battery on the bike yourself, when you conect the battery leads with the key turned off you should conect the red posotive wire first, when you conect the earth neg wire to the battery as you touch it on the terminal you should have no power drain at all, power drain would be identifyed by a spark when conecting the lead, the more powerful the spark the heavyer the drain, care must be taken while doing this as a battery can explode if no spark is evident then there is no power drain, if a power drain is found then you should disconect things 1 at a time until you find the sorce of the fault, dont spend any more money unles you know it will rectify the fault.

Need to change the battery

When you receive a new battery unless you get it from a local dealer you will have to fill with acid before charging. The acid is usually supplied in a plastic bottle with the battery.
