1992 jeep wrangler (4.0l , standard)- power loss after warm up.

First 15 minutes of driving = quick acceleration , good power- normal.
after that jeep is warmed up good, and any acceleration (usually 3rd gear on), going above 2000 rpm - jeep starts to lose power and stumble. if i stay on the gas hard it will pop or backfire. i can't get above 45 mph, just any acceleration above 2ooo rpm and it just dogs out.
replace dist. cap, rotor , wires and plugs. fuel filter is 3 months old - but will replace it next.
any ideas - why it will run good for 15-20 minutes -- then just **** out?
i can turn off and let sit for 5 minutes - and i get normal operation for 10 minutes or so.

Check fuel pressure at the injector rail. Could be pump is failing or filter is clogged.

Did you check your battery cables? If they are loose or corroded you may not be getting a good connection, and of course it takes less power to start a car on a warm day than a cold one.

1992 Jeep Wrangler Loss of power

Check all your fuses make sure their good. Your fuel filter should be changed once a year. Or in worst case it might be your fuel pump. If it was a rough road it might have set off your emergency fuel shut off system. Check your owners manuel to find the lacation and reset button.

1992 jeep wrangler with faulty acceleration. It

It is possibly the O2 sensor. I had some issues with early 90's 4.0 liters where the O2 sensor would stick rich under heavy acceleration and would cause it to lean out and bog down. It felt like a rochester four barrel flat spot on an old chevy. I hope this helps.
