SOURCE: Aprilia RS125 Help

Ive just bought a 2000 model RS 125 but my knowledge of bikes is pretty limited :/ The bike was running fine for a week with no problems at all but then the electric start doesnt want to work. I went through the manual and tried a couple of things (recharged the battery checked fuses cleaned spark plug etc) After I did this I still didnt have any luck but the electric start sounded abit more promising. I gave it another couple of goes and it started but when I let the throttle off the engine died and Im back to square 1. Anyone have any ideas about what could be the problem? I was talking to a friend and he said that I need to make sure that there is power going to the motor. He mentioned using a voltmeter to see if there was power going into it. He said that if there was no power then it would need a new electric start but if there was then I would need something else but I cant think what? Does this sound right to anyone?ou'll be able to tell if the ignition system is okay if there's a spark at the plug against the head with it removed when you kick it over (is there a kickstart lever on the bike?)/spin it over with the electric start. You could try bump starting it to see whether its just the electric starter motor or the ignition system itself that's the problem. If you do have a good spark then the bike should start with a bump push start/off the kicker (does it have one?)then you'll know whether the starter is the problem. My bike's kick-start only though so I'm no expert on starting Aprilia RS125's...Good luck. Don't waste money on new parts until you're sure of the problem though.,,,

SOURCE: 2006 Aprilia RS125 doesnt start

Hi .... Try switching the petrol off just prior to stopping the engine and start up again with the petrol OFF. There's enough petrol in the carb to start the bike. A good battery should show over 12 volts. Take the plugs out and give them a good clean or replace them. Is there a petrul pump fitted ? A two stroke needs to be ridden quite hard to maintain efficeincy, higher revs etc ........ let us know how you get on ?

SOURCE: Red warning light & EFI code will no go off?

You need to call the dealer and ask them but most of the time warranty repairs are free. When you call, ask to speak with the service department. Explain you have a 2009 and you think it is under warranty. Then describe the problem and ask how much they will charge to to LOOK at it. Then ask if it is covered under warranty and if not what the estimated charges will be. Often they don't know exact amounts until they look at the bike and figure out what is wrong with it, but looking at it should be free under warranty.

If you are not happy with their response you can find another dealer.

SOURCE: My aprilia rs125 2007 jus cut out on me and wont fire up again

  • Start with a new spark plug. Now do you see spark? If not, check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. If broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Check for a broken wire at the side stand switch and coupler. Try moving the kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it.
  • Check the fuses. How good is the battery? Try a jump start from your car battery. Is the handlebar kill switch on?
  • Check the operation of the ignition switch and all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter. Check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center casing. If still no spark, get CDI system and coils checked at the dealers shop.
  • Are the fuses good?
Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer? Thanks!

Starting problem on rs125

Based on your description, its sounds as though you have a starter or starter selnoid problem. The starter selnoid is not engaging the engine at first and then when it does, is nort passing enough current through to the starter motor to get the job done.
