How many links in the chain - 1992 Yamaha FZR 600

Sometimes all it takes is a master link or "quick link," but you can't count on that. How to fix it depends on several factors. There are different chains for the various number of cogs/gears on the rear of the bike, and an older chain may require a different procedure than a newer one. Further, if the chain is badly worn it may need to be replaced, but then may not mesh well if the gears aren't replaced as well. Finally, just taking out the rest of the link (one full link is one outer and one inner) may make the chain too short, which could damage the bike.

I bought this chain without first examining the "count" of my old chain. I found this new chain had 39 drive-links while my OLD chain had 40 links. My 10" Remington saw had enough chain-tensioning adjustment to compensate for that missing link and this new 39-link chain runs fine... cuts very well. Happy.

If you replaced the bar AND the chain, you'll need to make sure the chain is the correct chain for the particular bar you've used. If you're only replacing the chain, you need to make sure the chain has the same # of drive links as your old chain (maybe one or two more, if you've had some removed because of chain stretch).

On that particular model, for a 20" chain, you could have a 78 OR 80 drive link chain (drive links being the part of the chain that rides in the groove of the bar). The correct drive link count is determined by the bar you've installed and should have been made clear by whoever you purchased the bar from. Some brands use an 80 drive link chain, but MOST use the 78 drive link chain.

If the bar you purchased uses the 78 drive link chain, but you have an 80 drive link chain, then no matter how far out you adjust the bar, you may not get the chain tight enough. PartsBuggy shows a listing of which bars use the 78 drive link chains here.

I am not familiar with the Kett Car but I'll assume you've tried to see if there was an adjustment of some sort and you couldn't find one....So have you tried removing a link of the chain to shorten the chain? Chains can be shortened by taking one link out. Just realize that if you remove a link the chain may then be too short. So I'm not sure how much slack you actually have?
But to remove a link:
1) Find the master link where there will be little clip on the outside of one side of the chain and remove that clip and save it. It should slide off with a little pressure.
2) The Master link with the clip removed (mentioned above) can be taken out and the chain will no longer be in a loop. Save the master link because you'll need to put it back together after.
3) To remove a link, using a file or a grinder...grind off the last link on eather side of the chain. Use your Master link to see how far or how many links you'll need to remove. Remember, the master link will have to go back in to make the chain a loop again so you want to remove the link in the right place and not remove any more links than you need to.
4) Once you find where you want to remove the link, If you can visualize the letter "H" as a chain link, where the cross bar is there will be a silver piece on each side of the outside of the chain. This is what you want to grind off just on one side of the chain.
5) You'll see how the chaing is put together and using a punch, you can tap out the center cross piece. What you should be left with is (if I could put these sideways it would be easier to show) an 8 on one end of the chain and an 8 on the other side.
6) The master link will go back into the ends of these and rejoin the chain. Master links and chainds can be bought at most hardware stores so if you cut off too much you can replace the chain or master link.
7) If you do need to get a new chain, take the old one with you so you can get the right size.

Bike chains have one link that you can take apart. Look at all of the links and you will find one that looks different. you can use a straight screwdriver to push the removable keeper off the link and it will come apart so you can remove the chain.

ok there is three sprockets one on the transmission a guide in the middle and onle on your back axle. take a wrench and loosen up the middle sprocket. slide it all the way back untill the chain is snug or tight. tighten up your bolt and it should notice it drives faster and thats how you keep it from falling off. hope it works for you

For a honda 1999-2000 CBR600

you will need a 108 chain link. This is the standard link considering your front teeth has 15 and rear has 45.

If you're not sure of the chain length, buy the 120 link 530 Heavy Duty chain. THe longer the better, you can always cut the chain (using a chain cutter and repair kit) if its excessive.



I recommend you buy the gold chain-type.

well usually all chains have a link that comes off. if you get that to come apart, then you put the chain on the teeth were the teeth come through between the links. then you link back together the two chain links. it might be a little hard though
