SOURCE: bike dies when I put it in gear

It's a pretty good guess, but there are a few things I would check first. I believe that bike has a wet clutch, so check your oil level first. I can't remember if it's a cable or hydraulic clutch on that bike, I would have to assume hydraulic, but there is a fluid reservior on the clutch if it is hydraulic. As your clutch wears, your fluid level will go down. So check that as well. If it's a cable clutch, then check to see if adjusting the cable does any good. Either way it sounds as if you're going to need a new clutch in the not so distant future so get yourself a manual and study up on changing the clutch. It's not as hard as you would think and it will save you a bundle doing it yourself. Good luck.

The bike will crank up and idle and I can thottle it up fine but as soon as i put it in gear and release the clutch it dies.

is the kickstand still down when you are doing this. Some bikes have a kickstand sensor and wont let it run when down.

On my 72 cb100 when I pull the clutch in, the bike dies while idling. It runs fine while getting gas, but does not run at idle. It will start right back up when it does die. Any ideas?

The slow circuit of the carburetor is dirty. Take the carburetor off and remove the slow and main jets. Shoot carburetor cleaner through the jets and through the passageways of the carburetor body to be sure that it is clear. Does the bike die when you pull in the clutch and put it into gear? If it dies when you put it in to gear , you may have clutch plates that are stuck together. Take off the engine side cover, remove the clutch springs, pull out the clutch boss and the clutch plates. Carefully separate the plates, replace any damaged plates, coat the plates with oil and put them back in the same order. This should make the clutch act normally again.
