Couple of things to look for.

1. when you're putting it in gear, is the kick stand up or down. if down, most modern day bikes have a kick stand safety switch which will not allow you to put the bike in gear with the side stand down. this little relay may have failed. its usually located near the kick stand.

2. clutch disks may be stuck together. it happens on my old bikes from sitting too long (over a winter). when i pop it into first gear after i start it w/ clutch lever pulled, it will buck forward and die. i have to repeat a few times to get them unstuck.

good luck

I don't have a 5th gear on my 2004 Yamaha Vstar 1100 Classic!

If you mean the engine just revs and there is no drive, maybe it has a gear selector issue. The 5th gear is like an overdrive.
I would take it to a Yamaha repair shop for advice.

Yahama vstar 1100 dies when put into gear

Could be a couple things, first, make sure your kick stand is all the way up, if so, you probably have either a bad kickstand or clutch switch. They can be checked with a meter set on ohms, if you get the same reading in both "in and out" the switch is bad, Frank

My 2005 650 vstar wont accelaerate in 4th and 5th gear and loses power going up hill...it has plenty of acceleration in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear...wont go faster than 65

Had same problem with my sons 2000 1100. Was told by mechanic that the High RPM Jet was clogged and to clean carb. I filled the tank, put 1/3 of a can of Seafoam carb/injector cleaner, by the end of the week it was running 100 mph again.

I have a 99 nissan quest. I bought it a couple of weeks ago. I drove it from the place i bought it and it drove really really good. I pressure washed the engine, after that, the engine has been misfiring...

That pressure washing can and probably has damaged a sensor under your hood, but I doubt that a bad knock sensor would cause misfiring. Check your other sensors, lots of them on that engine.

99' Cavalier Z24 Manual Trans. - Hard to put into gear.

A stretched clutch cable doesn't feel any different than a new one. Check the clutch play (disengage tolerance), and adjust it if necessary. This is the most popular reason for hard to select gears. Worn out clutches will slip, and this is not your case. A worn out or defective synchronizer ring/ sleeve will ONLY affect 2 gears, and all the others will work fine, if this is your case, then the gearbox has to be taken apart, and rebuilt.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic just quit while I was driving it.

it sounds like your alternator is going out to me. you can go to your local autozone and have it checked. Also if your check engine light is on they will check for codes for free that will tell you the problem.
