Hi.
1st off no matter what any one says , do NOT try to adjust your float height !
The float height is SET on these bikes.....
I have worked on C90's for 35 years.
Get a white cloth underneath to catch any escaping parts ! & then strip the carb, removing the 2 jets & make sure they are clear.
Place items out in the order they came out....

Remove the float valve pin & needle jet .
This tiny valve is similar to a toilet cistern valve.
You have some dirt at the top of the valve.
You can use either carb or brake spray cleaner.
An airgun OR a piece of pipe attached to your mouth,
when you are happy everything is clean, re assemble.
Tick over screw is the large one with a small spring behind it, which is adjusted when the bike is running
The other smaller screw is the mixture & should be 1ans a quarter turns out from fully closed.
This screw should be LEFT alone once set !
There is also a fine mesh fuel filter underneath the fuel tap.
Be very careful when replacing the cover as the thread is very fine & CAN be stripped if over tightened.
Make sure that the slide goes in the right way, there is a small cut out on the slide for the tick over screw to push against.
If you put the slide in back to front, on initial starting the engine will rev its nuts off.
I have bought 2 or 3 bikes that have had this "problem"....

Float height is not related to time. This is a very technical area (carb adjustment) best left to the pros who have the skills, knowledge and equally important, the measurement tools to properly adjust a carb. Time is an entirely different thing.

It sounds like you have a bad needle in the carb allowing the float bowl to overfill. It depends on what type of carb is on the engine as well. If it's the original Keihin CV carb, you'll have to remove the carburetor from the engine and remove the float bowl, the float, and the needle. Replace the needle and reset the float height is necessary. There is a special way of setting the float height on this carb. It must be set with the carbuetor body positioned at an angle. If you'll contact me directly at [email protected] , I'll send you a picture of how to set the float level on the Keihin CV. If your bike has a different type of carburetor, let me know this and I'll try to help you with that as well. Don't forget to tell me what you need.

Remove the carbs from the bike, then remove the bottom of the carbs to gain access to the floats. You want to flip the carbs upside down and set them level by bending the tabs.

It sounds like your float level is just a bit high in the carburetor. Your bike is equipped with a vacuum operated petcock. When the engine is not running, there is no vacuum on the intake and therefore, not vacuum on the petcock. When there is no vacuum on the petcock, the fuel is turned off.

When you start the engine, vacuum is created and applied to the petcock turning on the fuel. If the float level is set too high or you have a piece of trash in the needle and seat in the carb, the float bowl will overfill and gasoline will run out of the overflow hose.

You need to take the carb off the engine, remove the float bowl, take the float and the needle out and clean out the needle and seat. Then check the float height. Now, this is an area where you need a manual. The float sets with the carb on a 15° to 20°angle. With it on this angle, you set the height to 0.413-0.453" from the carburetor flange surface to the top of the float. I usually try to set the float at the lowest fuel level setting with would be the 0.453" setting.

Float tabs come set flat to surrounding plate, bend up to decrease level and down to raise level. Raised level too much and you risk fuel overflow on sustained inclines and too low a level and you will lean out at high revs and damage valves/piston real quick. There is no set level to speak of, but better to err on the side of losing a bit of overflow. The overflow drains from the carby via a plastic hose from just above float bowl flange.

Sounds like your float needle is not seating properly, or your float height is incorrect, or you have trash in the carb. It will need to be taken apart, cleaned, and the float height set. Look at the float needle for wear on the tip.

If you have gas coming out of the overflow tube, you need to make sure the float valve is shutting the gas off properly. The float height would have to be awfully high to cause gas to come out the overflow. You might be able to do it on the bike but it's a lot easier to do off the bike. Pull out the float valve and inspect the tip. Make sure it is smooth with no evident nicks or deep grooves.

to check the float height, invert the carb body holding the float arm pin so the pin will not slip off. With the float arm kept free, measure the height it should be 22.4 + or - 1.0mm
This is what the shop manual says.
basically what that means turn the float bowl upside down and keep the bottom of the float even with the edge of the bowl.
