Hard starting, backfires on deceleration, when warmed up, feels like plug foul and will shut off engine, turn off key wait a few seconds and turn on key fuel pump will run 3-4 seconds then it is hard to start but will eventually restart and run okay for 3-4 miles and then do it all over again. New battery didn't help.

Check your battery cables, especially the ground cable. Check your ignition switch for loose wires/connections. Check your fuse box. Check your wiring harness for shorts and broken wires. When you say "battery seems to have plenty of power" what does that mean? What test(s) did you perform on it?

SOURCE: 1996 Suzuki Intruder 1400 hard to start and runs

Check the ignition system and set up the carb/s.
It sounds like the fuel mixture is too weak which could be a blocked tickover jet and/or the ignition system has a problem. If it is using a set of points, change the capacitor and check the points gap. If it is electronic ignition, check the ECU.
Hope that helps.

Fit a pressure gauge to the fuel line and check pressure, pressure must hold with the engine stopped, if not check the pressure regulator and the non return valve in the fuel pump.If all ok there check for injector leak.

Its a 1995 eclipse gs. Cranks but doesnt start. The fuel pump kicks in and fuel rail has gas flowing. Its just backfires and sounds bad in general. Ive had several people look at it and no one can so

There are few possibilities that cause such problems.
No start problem,backfire issues.
I suggest you few help links related to these issues.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

By boeinga1 on Nov 17, 2010 2001 VW Diesel Golf TDI. Car started no problem. Drove to gas station. Stopped for gas. glow plug light wouldn't come on, engine wouldn't start, engine turning but not starting....

i think glow plug replacement needed. ever used starting fluid in cold to start?try this, next time no start, cycle your key and let the light come on, wait till it goes off, turn key again until light goes off, if you have to do this more than 3 times, and it runs fine, replace the glow plugs only then. thank you for choosing fixya.com!

When my 883 warms up it fouls out the spark plugs, as if it is getting to much gas, when I go to accelorate it backfires and bogs down. At idle it runs fine.

Is your 883 fouling plugs AS if warms up or AFTER it warms up? The enricher circuit is designed to be extremely rich in order to start a cold engine. If you allow you engine to "warm up" with the enricher on the entire time during warm up, plug fouling is typical. You should use the enricher to start the engine but disengage it as soon as you can keep the engine running with the throttle. Use the enricher just as little as possible.

If your plugs are fouling AFTER warmup and while riding, your carburator is jetted too rich or your air filter is in need of servicing.

Takes multiple times to start

I think you have a faling fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator allowing fuel pressure to bleed down when the engine is off.
Try this test - When you start the car for the first time of the day, turn the key to "ON", wait a few seconds, turn the key off. Wait about 15 seconds, turn the key to "ON" again, wait a few seconds. Then wait one final time for 1 seconds and try starting the car. If it starts right away, that means fule pressure is bleeding of due to a bad check vavle int he fuel pump, a bad fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator.

The reason for the procedure is because when you turn the key to "ON", the fuel pump runs for 2 seconds and then shuts off if the engine is not running. The 15 seconds wait is for the power and fuel pump relay to cycle off before it will run the pump again.

Let us know how the test comes out. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and hums when it is running.

Runing lean

has good power and I got a great deal. I just ordered the Clymer manual (3-5 days delivery) so I am posting here to see if you folks have any quick suggestions. I noticed that the engine has a slight backfire/sputtering on deceleration and would take a while to warm up so I was thinking that it was running a little on the lean side. There was also some minor bluing on the exhaust. I took the plugs out last night and they appeared to be fouled. They were coated with carbon (not wet oil). Now I was thinking that it might be running a little rich. I cleaned the plugs and re-gapped at .0035. The engine seemed to warm up quickly but the it was still sputtering a little when downshifting and decelerating. What do you think this is? yeah backfiring while decelerating or downshifting can mean that you are running a little rich. I adjusted the idle screws on my bike to make that problem go away. Makes sense since as you slow down you normally release the throttle to virtually closed anyway... I havent had that problem since. Except now I get backfiring while riding at highway speeds... methinks my carbs are being flooded and the float levels need to be adjusted.,,,
