2000 silverado 1500 automatic ext cab 4x4 just recently started having problems shifting. The rpms will soar but the acceleration remains minimum or the truck will downshift on the highway while the rpms are not adjusted and remain high. The truck will not shift until i play with it & gun it, it often shifts very hard. Seems like the problem involves 3rd gear it will often act as if its in neutral and then suddenly slam into gear and rapidly accelerate.
The
shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has
to be open and realign. There
are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and
suddenly this occurred then its shifter
assembly alignment issue. Also its possible that transmission need to be inspected and needs rebuilt---------------------- But before directly replacing any costly parts i suggest you to refer these gear shift issues, which are mostly noticed. These

One thing to check, which is often the culprit in these situations is the U-joints. With the truck off, crawl under the vehicle and grab hold of the shaft leading into as well as the shaft going out of your transfer case, If htere is a lot of "slop in it, chance are it is in need of repair. Also I would check the oil level in the transfer case, in an attempt not to challenge you intelligence, there should be a plug located in the lower part about 2 inches from the bottom or so. it usually has a square hole that a 1/2" ratchet fits into. Pull the plug, and stick your pinky into the hole, you should be able to feel the lubricant just below the hole, if not it is in dire need of a filling. also check for metallic remnants in the fluid. this is a sign that things are not as they should be. In that case contact a repairman for a more thorough look.

sounds like your hydraulic clutch has failed. I would reccommend an internal inspection of your transmission by a mechanic.

u need to have the system tested for trouble codes, but u most likely have a defective trans 1-2 shift solenoid. to replace this u will need to pull the trans pan off the solenoids are attached to the valve body, also check the trans connector for water or corrosion.

I have a 1995 GMC 1500 with 5.7 truck that the ABS Light comes on
and then the tranny starts jumping gears and speedo goes crazy-
Changed ignition switch and that did not help.
You said that you had changed the speed sensor on the tranny and that did not help ?? If so that was my next step. Let me know if you find and answer and I will do likewise.

don't know if you have access to a scanner or not but what can be looked at is the manual lever position sensor where the linkage goes in theside of the trans numbers should stay steady in every gear if not it's going bad . if no scanner you could take the gamble and try a new sensor there about 60.00 hope this helps.
