Bike hesitates at low rpm. Once taking off from a stop and you turn throttle a bit to speed up it hesitates for about a second and then it catches up with throttle and lunges or jerks forward like a quick thrust of speed only for a second and then everything is fine. I only notice this taking off from a stop and from first to second gear. It has Vance and Hines pipes. Don't know if carb has been rejetted or adjusted. Just bought the bike about 1 1/2 months ago. Any suggestions?

Plug gaps are incorrect. They are too tight. The gap of a plug has direct effect to ignition timing. Too tight and timing is advanced. Too fat and timing is retarded. use a decent wire gapping guage (not the 99cent key chain gapper) tool is a FEELER guage not force guage. gapped right and your problems solved.

Check the tank for water or crud. Also drain the carbs to make sure the floats aren't obstructed.
SOURCE: Which size Jet Kit for 800 Vulcan Classic?
general rule of thumb is to go up about 10 jet sizes, unfortunately it is a bit of trial and error, and you may have to swap out diferrent sizes to get the bike running right,(jets are quite cheap though)but first step about 10 sizes from standard, your local dealer should be able to tell you what jets are in it and supply replacements,if you change to a hgh flow aftermarket air filter you may have to change jet sizes again as changing the filter may effect the mixture ratio in the carbs,,hope this helps

your carbs are dirty. and probably need to be balanced also... bring the bike bto a garage and have them cleaned by a profesional.... also after market pipes don't give your bike the proper back pressure .. that can mess up your carbs timing
