SOURCE: where doe's that spring go on rear brake drums 1996 chevy truck every thing is at top not at bottom, star wheel adjuster?

there should be several springs. first there are (2) real short springs that hold the shoes to the dust cover/back plate. they go in the center of each shoe. then there is a short spring that goes at the bottom where the adjuster is located. there should be a hole in each shoe. finally there is a long spring that goes at the top where your brake cylinder is and this is what gets attched last after your emergancy brake levers are placed between the shoes .

You can adjust the shoes outward on the rear by removing the wheels and drums, then above the axle but below the wheel cylinder you will see an arm that is horizontal, pushing both of the shoes outwards. There should be an adjustment nut that you can turn to extend the arm to push the shoes out.

SOURCE: parking brake pedal goes to floor

The disc brake pads are NOT used for the parking brake. The parking brake uses mini-drum type shoes inside the rear disc rotor.

The clutch pedal on Suzuki vitara two litre V6 1998 goes to about inch of floor before activation. Clutch does not slip just too much pedal travel. Is it possible to adjust it? ...

prev.gif next.gif Clutch ADJUSTMENTS 1997-98 Models CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT The clutch pedal height should not be a periodic adjustment but may be checked after components of the mechanical clutch system have been replaced. The proper clutch pedal height should be 0.2 in. (5mm) above the brake pedal height If adjustment is necessary, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting bolt until the appropriate height is reached. Once set, keep the bolt from turning and tighten the locknut to secure the adjustment. CLUTCH PEDAL FREE-PLAY The clutch pedal free-play should be checked from time-to-time in order to assure proper clutch operation. The proper clutch free-play should be 0.6-1.1 in. (15-25mm). Fig. 1: Pedal free-play is adjusted at the joint nut (2), while keeping the outer cable nuts (3) tightened around the center cable thread portion 7924hg30.gif
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. If the free-play must be adjusted, turn the joint nut (2) located at the transmission end of the clutch cable in or out, as necessary to achieve the proper play.
  3. Once the correct pedal free-play is obtained, check the free-play on the release arm (c), it should be 0.02-0.06 in. (0.5-1.5mm).
1999-01 Models These vehicles are equipped with a hydraulic clutch system. No adjustment is necessary.

My brake lights doesn't work unless I press the brake pedal all the way to the floor

HI, it sounds like your brake light switch is out of adjument. You can adjust the switch yourself. You will find the located at the top of the brake pedal. You may need to remove the plastic cover panel under the dash to get your hands up to the switch. The switch has a plunger on it that extends and retracts as the pedal is applied so you will need to push the brake pedal in by pushing on the back of the switch this will move the plunger closer. Now when you release the pedal and apply the brake pedal it will self adjust. This should correct your problem. Happy motoring.

Change the brakes and have abs

Make sure the rear brakes ,if they are brake SHOES,that they are adjusted up,to where the drum drags on the shoes as you turn the drum by hand,the rear brakes,are what gives you pedal height.If this is fine,replace the master cylinder.

Low brake pressure

If you are positive everything is bled out perfectly, it's possible that there is too much runout in the wheel bearings in front and they are pushing the pads back too far.

Does it feel solid after they are pumped up once? Another possibility is that the adjusters are not coming up in the rear brakes, and the springs are pulling the cylinders back too far.

Parking brake pedal goes to floor

Hello;
The parking brake cables may be stretched and in need of adjustment. Follow the cables along to a nut. Then you can tighten the adjusters up on both sides until you have the proper tension. Also make certain none of the brackets are bent or broken that the cables ride through.
Thanks;
