U have the mixture screw wound in to far. its normally located on the bottom of the carb. try winding it out half a turn at a time once the bike has warmed up. also turn the idle screw out a quarter of a turn at the time its in to far thats why it idles at low revs. the choke is needed to keep the air fuel mixture right thats why u are having to leave it on for so long. hope this helps.
I am having this same problem with my 95 Suzuki GSX 600 now it'll run with the choke on but when I turn the truck off it dies I tried to unwind the the throttle cable or the air/fuel screw but it's not making a difference I don't know if it's messed up or what I need to do but I looked at in all the carbs three of the four carbs looked really good the other one had some dirt and stuff in it or some it was just tarnished so I cleaned it really really good with brake cleaner without removing the carbs because I really don't know too much about what I'm doing what can I do
I'm sorry not brake cleaner it was carb cleaner ...

Not for sure but u might try to re jet the bike.i own a 98 suzuki bandit 600s and it also is really cold hearted. those bikes are unfortunately known for that problem.not that it was much help but u might try contacting Dales Holeshot Performance he specializes those types of bikes he also sells the jet kits.
i would also try to adjust the idle slightly higher hope this at least helps
