Sounds like you have a throttle control module problem. You will need to take it to a dealer so they can hook it up to the HD computer and test it.Its really not safe to ride in this condition.

SOURCE: I have 1998 FLHTPI

It sounds as if the idle system is blocked or restricted. If the fueling is injection then you need to get the bike on a diagnostic machine and check the fuel map and the fueling sensors. If it is Carbs- then you need to clean the carbs, the idle jets are very small and block easily over time. I hope this helps. Or you could just keep the revs up along with the front wheel, and save rubber(he he)

check for the pinched vacuum line at the carb,, sportys are hard to locate because they are tucked in way behind , it ay have come disconnected, unless there is a load on the motor it will idle fine, add a little load and you get the feeling no fuel is getting through unless you rev it up

Rough idling when warm heritage

Sounds like it is sucking in air from somewhere. Check between carbs or other gaskets. Good Luck

Rpm does not drop below 1000

No,only on carburated engines it,idles down to the set point,on yours,it's fuel injected, pushing gas pedal won't kick idle down, should go down after a certain amount of time, does it automatically,If you start and drive a 5 mile ride and stop at a stop sign,it should idle at it's set point if there's no engine problems, which may be.5 to .7 on your tac. When you normally first start,it will idle between 1000 to 1200 rpm's,don't push on gas,let idle say 15 seconds, put in drive and go.

2002 Toyota Camry stalls out after i disconnected the battery. It idles rough, rpm's just keep decreasing until it stalls out.

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.

What you have is this: Disconnecting the battery caused your car's computer to lose its 'base idle' parameters. This info is kept in the computer, but, removing power to the computer allows the info to be erased, so to speak.

This is, unfortunatly, a normal condition, and, easily rectified.

What you need to do: Get in the car, start it up, and drive it; simulating stop/start city traffic, and then take it out on the highway, hit passing gear a few times, pull off, and let it idle 30 seconds and repeat highway speed, and passing gear a few more times, then simulate city traffic again. You might need to apply a slight bit of gas during the idle periods of the drive. If you do it right, you can reset the base idle parameter under10 minutes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get back to me via reposting.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today.

Hi, I have a 1999 Chico/Citi Golf. The revs stay above 1000 and do not want to drop, I do not even have to pull the choke out. How do I get my revs to drop back to 1000? It use to Idle just below 1000,...

Check that the choke accelerated idle cam is not stuck. Check that the throttle cable has not dislodged and the outer casing is riding on the bracket. Check that the throttle linkages are free and the throttle returns to the idle adjustment stop. If all these are correct, adjust the idle adjustment to obtain the correct idle speed. 700 - 800 rpm is about the right speed.

I have a 2002 fatboy and while it rides fine while cruising,it dies when I come to a stop.It wont idle unless I'm on the throttle

If your Fatboy is carb equipped you need to set the idle speed a bit higher. If you're still running the stock carb, remove the air cleaner cover. You'll see a square looking plastic top on the carb. Just to the right (toward the front of the bike) you'll see a screw. This is the idle stop screw. Turn it clockwise to increase the idle speed. Set the idle speed with the engine at full operating temp. It should idle at about 1000 RPM.

If your bike is fuel injected, you'll have to take it to a shop to get the idle speed set as it's done electronically.

Good Luck

While driving on the highway or in traffic, the engine just stops. It re-starts in 3 to 10 minutes. I have changed the mass airflow sensor, but this has not stopped the problem. It also does not...

I had a similar problem, before it shut off, the rpm needle would booble up and down and then drop to 0 and shut off. After a while it would happen in the city and not just the highway. Ended up being the fuel pump, and I was also told the fuel pumps are known to fail on the mk4.

Harley runs nice in 40-50 deg. weather only

Hey Tom, gonna try and help ya here...typical vapor lock/overheating is what your describing and i sure hear a lot of it w/harleys...are you using a very high grade synthetic oil , like castrol Syntec Actevo ? are you filling up w/ premium gasoline ?
make sure your timing is not too far advanced and don;'t let it idle too low...when you come to a stoplight stand up for a strech while letting your engine get air not blocked by your legs....all these things will help greatly......Good luck to you friend...Tim
