SOURCE: how to remove the starter clutch on a 2003 yamaha

It is on the back side of the flywheel for the magneto/generator. You will need to remove the left engine side cover then pull the flywheel. It does take a special puller to get the fly wheel off. Once you get the flywheel off, there are 8 allen bolts that hold it to the back side of the flywheel.

Have 2006 yamaha classic 1100 v-star, i need to replace the rear tire and need to know best and fastest method to change. Thanks mark

A motorcycle lift is always helpful. When desperate I have backed my cycle over the back of a curb onto boards, jacked up under the back, and removed the boards to gain tire dropping height. Raise the back of the bike high enough that you can drop the wheel out the bottom of the wheel well other wise you may have to take off a saddlebag , loosen the rear axle nut, take out the bolt, knock out the spacer , lift the caliper assembly out of the way and hang it by a wire, grab the wheel, and slide it sideways away from the final drive. The wheel should slide right off the spline of the final drive and roll out the back under the fender. If the wheel wont slide past the final drive let the air out of the tire. Be sure to coat the spline of the final drive with moly60 paste from your local Honda dealer when reassembling.

Separate final drive from rear wheel

Take the rear axle off , unbolt and hang the caliper, grab the wheel with both hands and slide it sideways off the final drive spline. Once the axle and spacers are off the wheel is just resting on a spline shaft sticking out of the final drive. If the tire does not roll out the wheel well because it is too tight , let the air out of the tire. Be sure to grease the tire spline with Moly 50 paste before reassembly. Moly50 grease is available at the local Honda dealer.

Removal of motorcycle rear tire/shaft driven

The final drive assembly has to be unbolted from the swingarm and it is removed with the rear wheel. Once the assembly is off the bike, the axle can be removed and the final drive separated from the wheel.
