A 2003 model with only 50 miles?? Wow....well,since youve already taken the carb apart and cleaned it,did you hook up the vaccum line for the VOES switch on the intake manifold? If so,..when you get the bike running,..spray some brake clean around the intake where it bolts to the heads. If the idle picks up,or starts to sputter,..youve got leaking intake gaskets. Which is a good possibility on a bike that old with that few miles on it.The choke essentailly adds more fuel to the motor, and by what your saying, the bike is obviously running lean. Also,...im ASSUMING that you have fresh gas in it,and the petcock is turned on.

When cleaning the carb did you remove the jets and run a thin wire through them? Some low speed and idle circuit jets have holes drilled horizontally. Did you look to see if this does? If those are not clear or if there is any restriction in the idle circuit this will happen.
Some bike carbs that were supposed to be rebuilt or cleaned just were not. I spent 8 years fixing these little missed issues at a bike dealer in Chicago.

2005 Harley Davidson 1200 Custom Sportster Stalls at Lights and Stop Signs

4700 not a lot of miles. This motorcycle needs to run. It will be rough until you can get the carb cleaned. I would keep doing what you have been doing for a while. After a couple hundred miles if it doesn't improve, you might want to consider having the Harley shop give it a good tune up. Check the plugs ...

1200 custom sportster stops running when it get warm

Sounds like it is possibly the cam sensor. It is located under the round cover on the lower right side of the engine. The cover is held on by 2 rivets. If this is indeed the problem, you will have to re-time the bike after replacing the sensor.

If the carb is adjusted correctly, the engine will not idle without the choke when cold. I will usually take at least 3 to 5 miles of riding to get the engine warm enough to idle by itself without the choke. If your bike is a full operating temperature, it should idle at about 1000 RPM. If it's idling higher than this, you need to slow it down a bit.

Remove the air filter cover and look at the top right side of the carb. You'll see a screw there . This is the throttle stop screw. Turn the screw counterclockwise to lower the idle speed to 1000 RPM or so. Blip the throttle and let it settle back to idle. Reset it if necessary. Once set, put the air cleaner cover hand on.

I would guess stale gasoline or fuel. Try fresh fuel in the tank. If this doesn't clear the problem, you could need to have your carburetor or fuel injection system cleaned. I'm not even sure if they put fuel injection on Sportsters since I don't work on fuel injected bikes. I mostly work on the older bikes like Panheads, Shovelheads, Evos. Not too many Sportsters but have worked on a lot of Ironhead Sportsters. Try the fuel first. It's a cheap fix. Hope it works for you. Good luck with the knee replacement. My wife had one knee replaced and it works great.

Bike wont idle without choke

you need to take your carb off give it as good cleaning. also check your intake gaskets where the manifold joins the jugs and the black rubber one where the carb joins the manifold. You def have air/fuel problem going on. also check your vscume hose to the carb but im thinking that is not it.

Power loss after warm up

Most certaintly a fuel problem. It sounds to me like you might have a high speed jet a little stopped up. I would pull the carb and clean the jets. If the fuel is a little old, and I do mean a little, and the bike sat a little bit, the carbs probably a little varnished. The gasoline we have no days aint nowhere near what it use to be. Clean carb and all should be well. Also for future referance if you know your gonna let the fuel sit more than a couple weeks, I would use a fuel stabilizer and run the bike a while to make sure the stablelizer gets in the carb.
