in-tank fuel pump. remove gas tank and remove the fuel pump and screen from it and either clean the pump and screen(or in-tank filter) or replace it with a new one. Its a lot easier if you empty the tank first.
First take the trip meter reset knob off the speedometer. Then remove the center bolt or nut from the middle of the console just below the speedometer. Work the console cover off of the speedometer. Remove the seat. Remove the fuel line from the fuel petcock and drain as much fuel out of the tank as you can. Once you get as much fuel from the petcock, disconnect the "cross-over" fuel line at the front of the tank. Catch as much of the gasoline as possible.
Remove the two bolts at the Front of each tank and the one at the rear of the tank on top of the frame remove the tanks one at the time. There is a vent line that connects both tanks that crosses underneath the dash.
You have to remove the gas tank .First lossen the gas cap to remove the pressure. the fuel pump is inside the tank. The tank has two bands that are bolted in place . Siphon out the gas from the tank. hello. it should be located under your car on a line that's coming off your fuel tank and yes you can do this your self very easy to do ,you'll need a few box/open ended wrenches that's it you'll need to check the fitting or the nut on each side of the filter to see what the sizes are, befor removing the filter you'll want to take off your gas cap and remove your neg battery cable ,not when you find the filter it'll have nut on each side all you have to do it loosen them but make sure that you don't break the fuel line or kink it and after you have both sides loose then just finish turning them off and there you go the filter is off, nope no removing the gas tank some newer models you do and the filter is attached to your fuel pump and don't need replaced but for your car and year you wont need to remove the tank. good luck
in the gas tank on top of it. If u remove tank, try and do so when it's as empty as possible. Be careful as the metal straps retaining the gas tank in place are most probably pretty rusted and they have a good chance of breaking when u try to remove them.
