the air temp guage i belive is self contained no external sensor ( on my 2002), at least the one I removed to replace with oil temp guage didnt have one, the oil temp guage is the better option if its warm or cold you dont need a guage to tell you but oil has to get 190degsF to work right (moisture turns in to steam at that temp) and all aluminum engines make moisture at warm up I tell all our custs try not to take
short rides if posiable short rides mean short oil, and engine life

Outside temp sensor located at inner fairing, it is tied to left fairing frame just above cigarette lighter.
On OEM parts,
Air Temp Gauge pin#1 = Orange +12 Volt
Air Temp Gauge pin#2 = Black - ground
Air Temp Gauge pin#3 = Air Temp sensor pin#1

Bad Idea. It Could Fault The Computer. Best Bet Would Be To Install A Temp. Guage Oil Filler Cap. It Would Be More Indicative Of Engine Temp With Out Effecting Computer.

All four gauges are wired using common supply and ground connections. Oil, Voltage, Temperature and Fuel. If two gauges are not working and stopped at the same time, then I would start by removing the outer fairing and checking the wiring harness. If gauges stopped working at different times, then it is likely either the senders have gone faulty or the gauges themselves.
