Try jumper cables, silenoide may be bad but when it's clicking it's lack of power

SOURCE: Charging the battery over the winter

Hi there. Float charging the battery is a great idea over winter. You should always remove a battery from your bike or vehicle before charging. They produce hydrogen gas (EXPLOSIVE!!) and can easily ignite if a spark is generated (from the battery charge connection) . I have seen this happen before!! I would be using a constant voltage type regulated float charger to keep it topped up. Unless you can set up the constant current type you mention for a few milliamps of charge only. If you charge it at too high a rate, with constant current, it will overcharge the battery and boil it dry. Float charge voltage of 13.5-13.8 is good for any lead acid battery. Check it every few weeks initially to be sure that it is not loosing electrolyte. Thanks for using FixYa.

Your battery is too low. Take out the battery and have it tested.

SOURCE: How do you charge the battery on a 2007 Yamaha

i'm not sure if you are saying how to access it. if you can... just unhook the battery.... attach the charger to it ... be sure you have the polarity correct.... after charging it for few hours.... hook the battery back up.... start up the bike... and let it charge the battery the rest of the way

SOURCE: 2004 650 V star. two years seating. I drain the

spray some brake cleaner or quick start to verify it will run. If it starts then the problem is still fuel related. If it doesnt start then you have an electrical issue.

Yamaha 2006 V-star classic. Battery charged, but all I get is a clicking noise. What's wrong??

if it is not too big I would try a push start. if it is too big for that I would suspect the starter.

2006 Yamaha 650 V star wont start

what is your battery voltage? check for loose batter terminals and ground cables. Charge the battery if its low and then see if it will start. once its running test the voltage again. It should put out 13.5-15 volts just off idle. if it doesnt, something is wrong with your charging system.

Xvs 650 drag star has been sitting in garage over winter, battery appears fine but starter just gives off a series of clicks and no attempt to turn over the engine. What has gone wrong?

test the battery if its bad charging it will not help.next clean all the power cables at both ends, especialy from start relay to battery. if the battery is sure enough good the start relay may need to be replaced.

I have a yamaha xvs 650 dragstar converted to a trike it has been stood for 3 months. when i try to start it there is a fast clicking but the the engine does not turn over but will start easy with a bump...

bike needs a new battery. battery is no longer capable of holding a full charge no matter what a trickle charger says. batteries wear out over time. expect 2-3 years from a motorcycle battery.

the clicking sound you hear is the relay flipping between open and close as it tries to get the right amount of amperage to turn the starter.
