SOURCE: Ford Taurus 1999SE-Windshield wiper motor just hums. How to fix ?

Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  3. Remove the wiper arms.
  4. Remove the 8 plastic retainers and the 6 clips holding the cowl vent screens to the inner panels. Turn the retainers 1⁄4 turn counterclockwise to remove.
  5. Remove the cowl vent screens.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor and remove the 4 bolts that mount the module assembly to the cowl.
  7. Remove the windshield wiper module from the vehicle.
  8. Rotate the wiper operating arm in a clockwise direction to gain access to the bolt retaining the arm to the motor. WARNING
Always rotate the wiper operating arm in a clockwise motion or damage to the motor could occur.
  9. Remove the nut retaining the wiper operating arm to the wiper motor.
  10. Remove the three wiper motor-to-wiper module assembly retaining bolts and remove the motor from the vehicle.
To Install:
  1. Position the wiper motor on to the module assembly. Install the three wiper motor-to-wiper module assembly retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 115-151 in lbs (13-17 Nm).
  2. Position the wiper operating arm on the wiper motor output shaft. Install the mounting nut and tighten to 22-29 ft-lbs (30-40 Nm).
  3. Position the windshield wiper module onto the cowl. Install the mounting bolts and tighten to 106 in-lbs (12 Nm).
  4. Connect the wiper motor electrical connector.
  5. Position the cowl vent screens onto the inner panels. Install the 8 plastic retainers and the 6 clips holding the cowl vent screens to the inner panels. Turn the retainers 1⁄4 turn counterclockwise to install.
  6. Install the wiper arms.
  7. Connect the battery ground cable.
  8. Adjust wiper arms if necessary.

Here is the picture of the motor....it is the round object in the middle of the picture that looks like a can and has a square block on the end of it.

You have to remove the cowl vent panel....just under the windshield. $64.00 for a new motor.

Where is the relay for the windsheild wipers on a 2004 f-550

The windshield wiper relay on a 2004 Ford F-550 is typically located in the fuse box under the hood. The fuse box is usually located near the front of the vehicle, on the driver's side. To find the windshield wiper relay, you will need to refer to your vehicle's owner's manual or a wiring diagram for the vehicle. The owner's manual should have a diagram of the fuse box that will show you the location of the windshield wiper relay. Alternatively, you can search online for a wiring diagram for your vehicle.

Once you have located the fuse box, you may need to remove a cover to access the fuses and relays. Look for a fuse or relay labeled "wiper" or "wiper relay" to find the windshield wiper relay. If you are having trouble finding the windshield wiper relay, you may want to consider consulting a mechanic or taking your vehicle to a dealership for assistance.

I think the multi-function switch is bad on my 2005 Ford Taurus SE.The windshield wipers are functioning continuously. The fuse box is located under my hood. Which fuse can I pull to "kill" the wipers?

open the bonnet open the black fuse and relay plastic box. Listen for the relay kicking in or you may be able to feel the relay or look on the cover for the relay location. Pull out the relay .
I have a faulty headlight switch myself and had to hard wire my head lights on with a jump wire. The relay is in my pocket until I can get a new headlight indicator stalk. You may be able to jump wire the wipers with spade connectors to work with a jump wire in case you need wipers until you can replace the wiper stalk .
It could be a stuck relay causing the fault rather than the switch. you need to check if switch causes voltage to turn off accross the relay coil in the relay mount block.
