05 zzr 600 dies when driving and wont start back up

The bike will start up the first time but when you start driving it will all of a sudden bog down and die and wont start back up again. I have already cleaned the air filter, and put a new fuel filter on and put in new fuel and it started up fine again and idled like normal, made it 1 mile then quit again and wouldnt start back up.

How long has the bike been sitting? Sounds like the carbs may be gummed up,and in need of a professional cleaning, and re-synchronizing.

  • Anonymous Aug 31, 2012

The longest it has sit was only 30 days. When i got back off leave I went back to driving it like normal, was running smooth like it alway has. One thing i didnt put in the problem was i did run out of gas with it, but filled back up and everything like normal again, till a week after.

I would check and make sure that the fuel pump is working correctly to start with. Then check the vent in the fuel tank and make sure it isnt clogged. If both of these are OK,then i would start with checking spark when it cuts off....it could be several things. a bad crank sensor, bad ecm,bad ground,or bad connections to the ignition coils.

SOURCE: I have 02 zzr 1200 went out to drive it to work

have you checked the breather in the petrol tank
if its blocked it can cause this problem as the petrol gets vapour locked.

It sounds like your bike has been sitting in storage for an extended period of time (a year or more) - and the carburetors are plugged up. If this is the case, they will need to be completely disassembled and cleaned out.
If it hasn't been sitting (and the carbs aren't plugged up) then check that all of the normal tune-up items have been performed, especially valve adjustment, oil and filters, spark plugs, etc. If this fails to produce positive results, perform a compression check on the engine. Each cylinder must be able to produce at least 140 psi of compression in order to run and idle properly.

2006 zzr 600 dies when I drive it

The fuel system needs cleaning. Remove the carbs and petcock and clean them both out. The carbs have plugged jets which cause that. If you are not sure of how to properly clean out the carbs, I recommend that you take them to a shop or someone who knows how to.

The most common issue of bikes not starting after they have sat for a while is the carbs have gotten gummed up from the gas sitting in them. Gas breaks down and gums up the fuel and air passageways in the carbs after it sits for awhile. You need to remove and overhaul the carbs.

This is the single most common repair we see as motorcycle techs.

To be certain it is fuel related, it doesn"t hurt to spray some carb spray into the engine and see if it fires up briefly. If it does then you know its fuel related.

My zzr 600 was running and then just quit. I

Mistake #1, never try to jump start a motor bike, you may have blown the on board PC unit, best bet is to take it to good Kawka mechanic and let them fix it, bikes these days are fairly complicated..

1990 gsx 600 idles but almost dies out when i throttle it some times does die out

The idle rate can be adjusted using the idle screw on the carbs, if it is bogging down on take off, then it may be water in the carbs.

Re jet carbs? any help? i was driving for a couple days just fine then all of a sudden when ever i twisted the throttle the bike would bog down i would let off and it would idle rough then die i was able...

if you rejet the carbs. i would maybe take a plug reading. it sounds as if you might have gone too rich and the plugs began to foul. but a good plug reading will tell alot. if they appear to have a good tan color i would take a look and make sure no hoses are being pinched causeing a fuel starve problem.
fyi. if you just put on an aftermarket exhaust. sometimes you wont need to jump up in jetting that much. stay around the stock jetting and maybe shim the slide needle up a hair with a tiny washer. that usually puts you close. unless an elaborate aircleaner system and very high flow exhaust.

If you dont have a center stand ; take a two ton jack and put it under the rightside front of your frame with your side stand down; and jack the bike up to clear the grown , then start to un bolt the axle; then the brake cal.
