SOURCE: charged battery.showed charged right away.bike wont start unless

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The description "...series of clicks..." is significant. The battery is not putting out enough current to turn the starter motor. The best way to determine the battery condition is to have it load tested. However, considering eveything else, it would almost always be a failed or about to fail battery.

Incidentally, the alarm has been designed to have minimal current drain when in standby.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

SOURCE: Loud click when I press the start switch 1989 LS650 Savage

The loud click kinda indicates the starter is the problem. A fainter click would implicate the starter relay as the failing component.

Since I can't hear the noise, I would say first check the starter for 12 volts from hot to ground when the ignition is in start position. If you get 12 volts upon this test, then it's most likely the starter relay.

Then check the relay for continuity with starter disconnected from it and the ignition in start position. To find these components, just trace the red cable from the battery.

More info, let me know.

Charlie

P.S. The lights flicker because the battery voltage is dropping when the starter tries to turn over.

SOURCE: 2001 Suzuki GSXR 1000 has a slight miss fire, also won't turn over

On the starting issue alone. It sounds very much like a loose ground connection at the battery or starter perhaps. Sounds crazy but, check you negative connection at the batttery and at the starter. This could explain why it is not a constant issue...yet. Hope this helps, and please post your solution when completed. Thanks,

JP

Check the started, it could be 'dragging' and could need bushes replaced and a general service.

Loud clicking sound when i try to tunr it over

boost, hummmmm ?????????????
a charger with a boost button? (big shops have this)
or you mean jumper cable , jump started from a running other car?

my wild guess. is you always start fine, when jumper cable jumped.
this proves, the
battery in your car is BAD or is only discharged.
for 100 years now, same deal.
try a fresh battery off a good car.
works now, so ??? yours is weak or bad!

but started car , is the voltage 13.3. to 15v? a walfart $10 meter.?
no , then the charge system is bad (charge lamp on?)
note, i said system. not a specific part.

if the charge system is failing.?
  1. bad battery. tha'ts right alts do shut down with battery bad. (open or shorted battery)
  2. loose alternator pulley belt.?
  3. bad alternator wires. connections.? or bad battery cables.?
  4. scan the PCM most 2007 will report what is wrong with voltages and charge. scan it.
engine rpm way below normal at idle 800 is typ. good. 400 dead wrong.
battery cables bad.
battey cables lugs green with corrosion
someone put the minus cable far end to the wrong part>?
this minus cable has correct spot near the starter.
some fit to block others to stater , bolt or bell blots.
to frame is wrong, seen that , with lazy work.

Trying to fix my Volvo S60 2002 model. It won't start but when I hook the jumper cables to the my battery i have all interior power. when i try to turn over the engine nothing happens except clicking....

Make sure you have a fully charged battery...clean the terminals real well.
Alternator only charges the battery when the correct engine rpm is attained.
A clicking noise could be the starter solenoid which is basically a relay / contactor but can block power from reaching the starter.
Worn brushes in the starter can also zap a battery's power.

Battery, starter and aloternator can be tested at most part stores.

From what you describe, I'd clean battery terminals and ensure battery is fully charged.
If clicking still happens, I'd move to the solenoid and starter.

Hope this helps...

Bmw 325i wagon slow starting then totally no turning over at all.All lights work dash is all lit up .Battery is fully charged car has faint click.but still wont turn over.I think it might be the starter...

I would try replacing the battery first. Even a fully charged battery can have bad cells which will cause the battery to not have enough "power" to turn over the starter/engine.

Loud clicking noise when I turn the ignition. Lights work(dim). Radio works.

your battery state of charge is low. you can try boosting the vehicle, which will hopefully get you started. you should have a battery load test performed, as well as testing the rest of the charging system. good luck!

Have a 1996 Taurus wagon--dead battery--got brand new battery and connected it properly and car barely turns over and wont turn enough to start--car was sitting for about three months

Was the battery checked before it was sold to you? Batteries will lose their charge over a period of time even when not hooked up. If you have a voltmeter it should read 12.8 volts on a fully charged battery.
Have you tried to boost the car with cables?
I suspect if the car was working OK 3 months ago it should start. Which leads me to suggest an undercharged battery.

Van starts with boost but not withuot

Your battery needs to be replaced. If your battery is in good condition, I would suspect the alternator, but you wouldn't be able to drive very far once it was started if this is the case.

Lights up when turned on,but repeated clicking when you try to start it

dose it start when you get a boost off, and if it dose you need to check your battery connectors they may need replacing, and if thats not the problem make sure that your alternator is charging your battery and if non of these are the problem you need a starter.
