I just picked up a poulan riding lawn mower today. I think it is a PB1638LT, the model number is 96012004401. It start and runs great, but when it is put into gear it makes a grinding sound in the rear. It drives around but makes the grinding noise and it is loud. It does it without the blades engaged, I havent tried engaging the blades yet. Any ideas on what it could be?

There is an operator presence switch under the seat...it is more than likely faulty and must be replaced in order for the mower to run right.

Push the clutch all the way down and try to start, does it crank over?
Let me know.
