SOURCE: Replacing broken drive shaft

the u joints definitely need lubrication and as far as breaking a drive shaft I personally have never seen one break unless someone has been really hammering it or doing a lot of burnouts

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: How do you determine the required oil level of the drive shaft?

there is a sight glass about the size of a nickle directly below the filler plug ,oil level should be midway or close to the top,you should see the oil level in the glass window,if not you'll have to remove the cover and clean or replace the sight glass window....

SOURCE: Where does the oil come out of a 2004 Yamaha 1100 VStar Classic

Oil drain plug is located near the bottom of the engine, left side toward the front. The oil filter element is located on the right side of the engine under the cover toward the front. Changing the oil filter usually requires removal of the front exhaust pipe. There is an aftermarket filter relocation kit that replaces the filter element with a spin on filter that mounts on the front of the bike.

Removing Yamaha rear tire (1100 Classic)

do you mean remove the wheel? tires are best left to a shop to do as they have the machine. drive shaft yes? undo all bolts thru frame to final drive casing. slacken wheel nut but do not remove spindle, pull wheel back and out of the frame the drive shaft comes with it, tace out spindle and now lift final drive from wheel, there may be a spacer which might fall out. done deal..
