1995 honda vt1100c clutch won't engage

I have a friend who replaced the clutch discs in 1995 Honda VT1100C. Everything went smooth but the clutch will not engage now. You pull in the clutch and put it in and it dies. The clutch moves but does not seem engage all the way. I have taken it apart four times now and according to the manual everything looks right. I have bled the slave cylinder several times also. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hhmm interesting one... Firstly make sure you have put in the correct amount of plates and not 1 more then the required amount. Count the amount removed originally and then the new amount you've just installed.

Next make sure that you soak the plates generously in oil before installing (dry plates will stop the clutch from engaging).

Next make sure the plates are installed correctly. Make sure the pressure plate is sitting flush on top of the final plate and the first installed plate is sitting flush with the back of the clutch basket. Any gaps either end will cause an issue. Some pressure plates have locating markers where they locate into a particular position on the clutch basket (Check yours for this).

Lastly if you've interfered with the clutch fluid make sure that any air is fully bled out of the system. Hope this helps. (RPMz).

SOURCE: how do I bleed the clutch on a 93 honda shadow VT1100C

Hydrolic failure is caused by mixing hydroscopic (DOT3) with petrolium based (DOT5) ater and oils don't mix. Blockage at return port won't allow fluid to return to master cylinder. Clutch will not engage if this were the case. The leak would be your best tell. Not knowing exact leak location it would be hard to say. inspection of master cylinder plunger seals couldn't hurt. If dissimular fluids have been mixed all rubber components have been contaminated and must be replaced

Your clutch plates have lasted 25 years. It is probably time to get some new plates. Have your dealer get you a set of Barnett clutch plates.

SOURCE: I have a 2003 honda shadow spirit vt1100c and it

These bikes are notorious for doing this. You must have a good battery to start these engines. I had a '94 VT1100 Shadow and it did the same thing. I bought a new battery and that solved the problem. Take you battery out and take it to an automotive parts house. They'll usually test the battery for you free of charge. Back when I had my Shadow, the only people that made the battery was Yuasa and it was that Yumacron battery. Expensive but it made the bike start well. Good Luck!

SOURCE: 1988 Honda VT1100 Clutch problem

hi,might be able to help, there is probably nothing wrong with your master cylinder assembly, what has happened is that the clutch plates have stuck together, there are two ways to fix it,one is easy one not quite so easy, try the easy one first, what i normally do in this case is start the bike, roll down a hill or get someone to push you just to get moving, pull in the clutch, change up into second gear,to get the gear box working, change up into the highest gear you can(you dont need the clutch to change up)all the while you are still holding the clutch lever in,get up to a reasonable speed say 20-30 mph, keep the throttle open a little, keep the clutch lever in and start applying the brakes,it may take a few meters but the plates will let go and normal clutch operation should return,as the plates free up,the second option is to remove the engine cover dissasemble the clutch pack and free the plates manually, personally,i have always used the first method, sounds complicated but is actually very simple to do and will save a lot of time and frustration, give it a go first before you pull your bike apart, this is quite a common problem on bikes that have been sitting for a while..hope this helps..cheers

Testimonial: "I did try this but it did not work. I drove it for about 4 miles going up and down the gears and applying the brakes. I guess it has to come apart."

Will a 92 1100vt shadow motor bolt up to a 88 1100vt shadow

This leads me to think yes, but I would be fixing the engine you have. Aluminium can be welded, spray coated and reground to fix any damage.

My honda shadow vt1100c 1986 wont start because of no spark.starter will kick over but no spark to leads.can anyone help?

Weak battery, starter is taking too much power and nothing left for spark. Also, you have to fill up carburetors with gas if the bike was still for a while.

Valve adjust on 03 honda shadow vt1100c

If the same as 1985-1998 VT 1100 - you have a hydraulic valves, so NO adjusting, if Noise - valve tappets clogged, take out engine oil, use cleaning oil, start engine and run it till tapping goes away.
Then use Motul 10-40W, this one have add of cleaner in and better shifting.
