Hello....for the crank case you will want to use Yamalube 4 (10w-30) or an equivalent SAE 10W-30 SE motor oil. There is not a dip stick on the bike, Need to measure teh oil in accordance with Yamaha specs. You will need to check the owners manual or contact the local dealer service department and should be able to tell you how much needs to be added. If you don't have good 1qt mix cup you can get one at a good motorcycle shop. These are very help full in accurately measuring your premix oil for the fuel as well. Hope this helps

SOURCE: i changed the oil and filter on my 03 ultra

There are two drain bolts on the bottom...one for the engine oil, and one for the transmission. If you drained them both, but only filled the oil, then you are running a dry transmission.

The transmission fill is forward of the oil fil. It is a round plug, with a 3/8 inch hex (allen) wrench hole in it.

SOURCE: Oil Change to Honda CRF250r 2004

The left side is the ENGINE oil fill. The right side oil fill plug is THE TRANSMISSION oil. There are 2 separate drain plugs also. Honda sells an engine oil with moly HP4M that you should not put in the trans because it will cause clutch slippage. The best performance and protection for your bike is full synthetic engine oil with a dedicated gear oil in the transmission. Get yourself a manual so you will not be as confused

Synthetic motorcycle oil is a must. The book probably recommends 5w30. There is a ton of videos on youtube for your bike, including the oil change, some great tips. Check them out. It would take me hours to explain it. Hope this helps.

Hi David,I suspect your starter solenoid is sticking. The SOLENOID is an electro-magnetic device that when 'charged' engages the starter drive gear, and battery voltage to the starter motor. corrosion, and or low battery charge could be the problem. Best O' Luck

How do you check the oil in a 2003 yamaha roadstar 1600?

all bike are to be checked in the upright position! then find out how much the bike takes from your manual if you dont have a manual ...do the following ..when you just change oil and not filter you will be adding less oil,"almost" all bikes take @ 3 quarts oil minimum, so what i do to be safe!! is always after draining is put in two quarts no problem, but with the third bottle i only pour in half.. drop oil cap back on and start the bike and let it run for a minute, the turn it back off, then check oil level, if it doesn't register anything on the stick or sight glass then your o.k. to add the rest. now take a reading, and only fill to almost full, i always under fill my bikes, because over filling will cause damage to internal bearing by the air bubbles from the splashing of the crank in the oil pan. Same as cars.
If you found this helpful can i get a rating?
Thanks
