SOURCE: I need the torque specs

14 - 19 foot pounds. Make sure you put a good sealer on the rocker box gaskets and if you use bolts, put Loctite 242 Medium hold blue on the bolts. If the original studs are still in the head and you're go to use nuts, I suggest that you use torque retaining nuts that do not have nylon sleeves in them. Keep in mind that if you have a rocker box leak, you must pull the heads off to repair it.

Good Luck

1971 Harley-Davidson XLH 900 Sportster. Please help. The book and service manual give different specs for rocker box covers. What are the torque specs for a 1971 XLH 900 rocker box tops?

On most vehicles rocker covers are not normally bolted down that hard. Install the bolts by hand until finger tight then tighten in sequence a Quarter turn at a time until you get to 20 Ft/lbs and NOT tighter. Rocker covers are not normally exposed to full oil pressure so don't need to be a high torque setting. I often go to 15 Ft/lbs first and run the vehicle for one or two miles to check for leaks. That gives me that extra 5 Ft/lbs to avoid over tightening bolts.

Torque specs 2003 olds silhouette rocker arm 3.400

Here is a suggested updated torque spec for this engine's rocker arm bolts;
Rocker arms
Step one: Torque to 11 ft lbs then tighten an additional 90 degrees of bolt head rotation. Some guys don't fuss with the torque specs and just get them good and tight. Either way, be careful, as the heads are aluminum. You do not want to over tighten these bolts

The lower rocker box bolt torque specs are:

The upper socket head bolts are 1/4" bolts but torque to 100 in. lbs. according to the book. Go figure.
