Could be more than one problem.
The oil light staying on when the engine is warmed up could be a problem with the oil pump or engine bearings.
Its possible the switch for the light is faulty.
You can replace the switch or have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge at a shop.
The high idle could be several things, but I would be more concerned with the oil light.

SOURCE: Oil pressure light on at idle

Don't delay on this. Take the vehicle in and have the oil pressure sensor checked. It could be just the sensor or it could be something more serious. A drop in oil pressure could lead to catastrophic engine failure.

SOURCE: cold start problems with 1987 honda accord

I have an 87 accord manual carbureted with 200k miles on it and mine has done that ever since I got it. I've owned it for about four years now and the previous owner told me it happens. I have no idea what it means but the only problem I've ever had was when the alternator went out last summer (which I doubt is related but had similar symptoms).

Not a solution, more just commiseration.

SOURCE: 1986 Honda Accord DX - too high idle on cold start

1986-1989 Honda Accord with Carburetor have a very bad habit that is little known even by most mechanics but easily fixed at home. The vacuum port on the choke opener that is connected to the intake manifold and both vacuum ports on the fast idle unloader get plugged up with nasty hard carbon almost as hard as metal. When this happens the choke sticks closed and the idle sticks on fast idle when the engine is cold and nobody can figure out why. All you have to do is attach a small drill bit to the end of a flexible socket-driver extension and put it in a variable speed drill that will let you run it real slow and carefully drill out the vacuum ports that are plugged. After they are nice and clean use a vacuum pump tester to make sure the choke opener and fast idle unloader are working before putting it all back together. It's amazing how much better the car runs after cleaning out those ports.

Cant seem to get the idle are timing locket in seem to idle to high the check engine light stays on

Find out what code the CEL is throwing. It could just be that your idle needs to be reset. Or you got the timing wrong when putting your car back together and it's running excessively hot.

1992 honda accord ex 2.2L \r\nStarts. and run s OK till engine warms-up then it lacks power and idles rough? Service engine (yellow light) comes-on after engine gets warm! Red oil pressure light also...

Hi. This issue has several causes, but the oil light indicator is a strong sign of low pressure in the engine. This will cause the engine lubrication rate to drop, thus, producing a illuminated oil light, and erratic Oil pressure readings. The necessary actions are to have a manual oil pressure test ran on this engine, asap. When running a manual oil pressure test, you will discover if the true oil pressure is low, or normal. If the test proves that the oil pressure is, indeed, low, this will confirm that the Oil pump is suspect.

Now, if the true readings given during the manual oil pressure test are indicating that the pressure is normal, this will be the result of a failed sending unit(oil pressure switch). Although the oil pressure is suspect, this is not your only issue here. There seems to be a abnormal compression rate, present. This is causing the rough idle, and erratic RPMs. I recommend to administer a engine block compression test, as well. This test will discover if , indeed, there are issues within the cylinder heads, and block structure, such as a worn head gasket, cylinder wall issues, and cracked block. Normally, these issue will send signs, like white, or gray smoke out the tail pipe, or discolored oil. It will, also, promote erratic RPM ratings, and a rough idle. Have the oil pressure test, and engine block compression test ran, asap.

Once the test are administered, you will be able to isolate the actual problem areas, more accurately. Check the spark plug wire sets, and ignition assembly for faults, also.

Oil light blinking

there is always the possibility that you really have low oil pressure when you get this light, at idle the engines oil pump produces the least pressure and if there are problems then that is when it shows up, so have the oil pressure tested by a shop with a mechanical test gage, if the oil pressure is within spec then replace the oil pressure light sending unit on the engine, I don't recommend you drive this until u are sure of the pressure, u can SEVERELY damage the engine is the pressure is really low.

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

89 Accord LXI Idle problems

It's fuel infected and it has a vacuum leak, most likely a PCV valve that is stuck open, I've seen a few now. Replace the PCV valve 1st, if that doesn't fix it, start looking for a hose that has come off.

Oil light

hey

what sort of clicking? is there any knocking noise when you rev the engin?? if you have engine idle set then it could be the shell bearings if the oil light is staying on (worst case) or maybe a faulty oil switch!! keep it checked for oil and it shuld be ok!!
