Starting and general running

I got this free Pdf manual from reliable-store. com for free and I don't think Ive visited a mechanic or fixya for help for more than 3-4 times out of the 20 times I fixed the chipper in these 4 years

The starter drive is not kicking out to engage the flywheel, try tapping with a hammer to unjam it

I am not familiar with your model but general rules are as follows. 1 - make sure that the gas'oil mixture is the right ratio and that the fuel is not stale. 2 - Depress the little rubber primer bulb 4-6 times, or until yor see little bubbles through the bulb. 3 - Rotate the choke lever to Full and pull the starter cord until the engine tries to start. 4 - Rotate the chole lever to Half and pull the starter cord until the engine starts.5 - After the engine warms up, rotate the choke lever to Run or Open so that the engine runs smoothly.

No mention of model...so these are general comments.

First, when you say there is power to the starter, do you mean the actual starter or the starter relay (or starter solenoid). On most Yamahas there is power to the starter solenoid from the battery at all times.....power leaves the relay to the actual starter motor only when the key is on, the interlocks are satisfied and the starter button is pushed.

So if you actually are getting power at the starter motor and no rotation, and the battery is fully charged you have either a starter motor issue or an internal engine/clutch problem. Is the bike physically in neutral ...rear wheel spins? Remove spark plugs and attempt to rotate engine with kick starter if equipped, or access rotor bolt and rotate with socket...if it rotates fine...remove starter motor and inspect,

If the starter relay is not sending power to starter motor....check Kill switch is in ENGINE RUN position, bike is in neutral, and indicated on dash, and retry. If you have no neutral light showing, but it is in neutral, you need to flip the sidestand up...pull in the clutch and retryt....as there is a sidestand switch and a clutch switch that are part of in gear starting interlocks.
No neutral light indication requires testing of the neutral switch aand wiring but tryt to get the bike running first.

If you'll look just behind the rear cylinder, there is a black thing with a large cable running to it. This is the starter on your bike.

I could be your starter hanging up. When you press the start button, the jackshaft is pushed out by the solenoid part of your starter and it engages the ring gear on your outer clutch drum. The starter motor starts up and turns your engine. Once the engine fires, the jackshaft is now turned faster than the starter motor can turn it and the starter clutch allows it to "free wheel" until you let off on the start button. Once you let off on the start button, the solenoid demagnetizes and pulls the jackshaft out of engagement with the ring gear.

If you think the starter is hanging up, you need to take it to a qualified mechanic and have it checked. Since you don't know where the starter is, I would be hesitant to tell you how to try to repair the starter. Have it checked out before the starter clutch locks up and the starter is destroyed and cause damage in other areas as well.

since have change new battery, will the motor turn over? if the engine turn over or crank, check if you have sparks, by pulling the plug out and ground it to the metal to the bike and turn the motor over and see if you getting spark, double check if you are getting fuel, two items to make the engine run, sparks and fuel. if the stater dont make any sound when you press the start button it may be faulty serenoid to the starter, check starter and starter switch. you can get a light tester and test positve and negative contact to your serenoid/starter by hold or pressing start button to see if you get power to the starter. hope that help some

If you are not getting the starter to wind after pressing the start switch check these probs.Have you checked the fuses for the ignition switch? Check all fuses. Track the wiring from switch and check all plugs and connections.  Turn ignition on and try clutch starting the bike to see if the motor will run once it is cranked over. If you need to bump it, make sure all your connections and wiring are all making good contact. You must conduct a process of ilimination in order to rectify the fault. good luck.

Make sure you have a good, charged battery. Clean all the connections on the battery, the starter, and the ground (black) wire on the frame. If it still does not work, the starter my have an internal short. Hope this helps.

The click is significant. It indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either be a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:

• with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
• have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
• determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
• while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
• if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
• if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty or it can not turn the engine..

A few additional ideas:

• externally charge the battery;
• drain the tank and carbs of stale fuel;
• refill with fresh fuel;
• remove the plugs, center stand the bike, engage 1st gear, rotate rear wheel to exercise engine.

most of the times recently the auto start does not work . I contaced the service man he is now recharging the battery . Did the wrong usage of auto start ( pressing the button and accelerating at the same time ) cause the problem only later I knew the pressing of button only suffices the start ,Generally speaking, revving the engine at start-up isn't good for the motor. It's best to let it warm up a bit before cracking the throttle. It sounds as though the battery was just weak. The only thing that will result from pressing the starter button and twisting the throttle at the same time is additional wear on your engine (and maybe the starter motor too).,,,
