Windstar engine will not shut off after removing key from ignition

A/c not working, no cool air blowing, rear blower was not working at all. Disconnected negative cable from battery and pulled fuses and relays to check. Replaced them back. reconnected neg. cable and started van ok. Turned off ignition but engine would not shut off. Had to disconnect neg. battery cable and turn igniton on to get engine to stop running!

My problem is I can start the van ok. but when i turn off the ignition, the engine keeps running, even if I remove the key. To stop it, I disconnect the negative cable from the battery and then turn key as if to start the vehicle. The engine then shuts down.

I finally got the engine to shut off by turning the key off. I player around (wiggled) the relays I previously pulled. I am guessing there must have been some kind of short cause by pulling and putting relays back in place.

I think you need to study about:

Closed or Completed Circuits
Open Circuits
Short Circuits

NO ONE has any idea what a short circuit is

If you had one, you would have a blown
fuse or burned up something

SOURCE: Blower Motor on 2000 Saturn SL

The blower motor is connected to a termic switch, when the motor is fine and fuse is ok, is the switch that must be replaced.

Ensure the fuse is ok first.

SOURCE: '99 Ford Windstar heater investigation turned into dead car

You seemed to have one problem then you developed another one. Here is my suggestion that loud screeching sound mean that you have a bad flywheel or at-least in one spot. If you manually turn fly wheel all the way around you should see chip in the teeth/gears of the flywheel. The other problem is during all the connections back and forth with the battery you may have blown the battery/main fuse,or may have burnt a fusible link, replace and you should re-gain power to start. If flywheel is damaged turn the damage part away from the starter and the vehicle should start with out screeching. Godd Luck contact if you need more help

SOURCE: cannot connect the negative battery terminal without spark or starter turning over

You will need new igniton cylinder. Sounds like you have a short in the cylinder.

My 2003 Chevrolet ASTRO van the front heat works and blows fine but the rear heater blows cold only

There could be a few possible causes for the rear heater not blowing hot air in your 2003 Chevrolet ASTRO van. Here are a few things you could check:
  1. Make sure that the rear heater control valve is fully open. This valve is located near the heater core and controls the flow of coolant to the rear heater.
  2. Check the coolant level in the radiator. If the coolant level is low, the heater may not be able to produce hot air.
  3. Check for any leaks in the coolant system. If the system is leaking, it may not have enough coolant to produce hot air.
  4. Check the thermostat. If the thermostat is stuck closed, it may not be allowing enough coolant to flow through the system to produce hot air.
If these steps do not help, it is possible that there is a problem with the heater core itself, or with other components of the heating system. It may be necessary to have a mechanic diagnose and repair the issue.

No heat. New thermastat, heater core flushed, good circulation. Has a rear heater.

Does blower motor work , air blowing out of ducts ?
Temperature blending is varied by the air temperature control door, which regulates the amount of air that flows through and/or around the heater core (18476) , where it is then mixed and distributed.
Movement of the control knob from COOL (Blue) to WARM (Red) causes a corresponding movement on the air temperature control door and determines the temperature that the system will maintain.
Temperature Control
The temperature control operates in the following manner:
  • Temperature control of the heater system is determined by the position of the temperature control knob (between COOL-BLUE and WARM-RED) of the heater control .
  • This control knob is connected to a potentiometer mounted in the heater control . This potentiometer is electrically connected to the electric blend door actuator that operates the A/C air temperature control door.

My rear heater blows nothing but cool air the front works good

{: ) Did you ever hear any ticking sounds from the rear compartment whenever you turn ignition on? At any rate, you could be having a malfunctioning air temperature actuator or a binding or stuck up vent door at your rear HVAC blower.

1999 WINDSTAR front heater not working blowing cool air, rear heater works fine

There is a huge problem with the blend doors on the Ford Windstars. To access the Blend doors, the dash must be pulled and the plenum box removed. It is very labor intensive. Alternatively, there is a way to remove the glovebox, make an incision in the plenum box, and replace the blend door. There is more info on the problem here: http://www.heatertreater.net/Final%20Tech%20info.htm#History

My 01 Windstar SEL has 2 problems with the AC/heating system. #1 when you turn on the blower motor/fan it only blows air through the defrost & down at the floor. I think it's a vacuum problem. #2 the...

The problem with the air distribution is due to loss of vacuum to the vacuum motors that control the air diversion doors in the AC/Heater duct work, The vacuum comes from the engine and then goes to a vacuum storage canister, check there first under the hood. The other issue of loss of cold air is most likely due to a sticking air temperature control blend door and or actuator. This requires the dash be removed to replace the parts.

1999 windstar, rear heater was only blowing on med/high no stoppe

be prepared to renew both the blower motor and blower resistor. if it were just a bad resistor it should work on hi-speed only. make sure you have power to the motor when on hi speed. bad blower motors will kill the resistor. follow the water tubes from under the drivers side of van to the point where they enter the van, that is where unit would be located on the inside. be prepared to remove some seats and wall covers.
