SOURCE: 2007 650 yamaha vstar popping through the rear cylinder exhaust

First off did you buy it new? Second has it gone through its break in tune up yet?Did you do the re jeting? My guess is it was re jeted wrong & neeeds to be re jeted again or could also need more air(upgraded air kit) or a tfi or power comand fuel mod.My bike also poped untill I did the air & fuel upgrades & them upgrades will also give you a much needed house power needed for this rig.

Bring it to a shop & have it looked at.......

Good luck

SOURCE: backfiring through the carb

Yes, the boots may well be the problem. The cracks can let raw air into the intake which leans the air/fuel mix. This makes the engine run hotter. Carbon build up on the head and pistons can get red hot and on the cylinder(s) involved, can ignite the incoming fuel shortly after the intake valve opens. To lessen the problem, replace the boots, burn only premium gas w/o ethanol, and install a set of spark plugs that are one heat range colder than the stock plugs.

SOURCE: motorcycle "back-fires" and often runs on one cylinder

Does the bike backfire only when the throttle is being closed? The carbs have a idle enrichment circuit. If the idle enrichment diaphragms are stuck in the closed position, the bike will backfire when the throttle is shut down. You can't remove these parts for cleaning without seperating the two carb bodies (and then needing to synchronize the carbs after reassembly). A trick that worked for me...fresh fuel, and some fuel system cleaner in the tank...ride the bike at highway speeds for 20 -30 minutes...repetedly rev the engine to a high RPM then shut the throttle closed. The repeted application of high engine vaccum to the enrichment diaphragms freed the stuck diaphragms and the fresh fuel cleaned any gum and varnish that caused the trouble. I've put 20,000 miles on it since then with no backfiring.

SOURCE: My FZR600 won't start. No mods, all stock. I got

it is possible that th eplugs might be fouled but it seems unlikely after only two weeks running-my fzr would foul plugs but it usually takes months not weeks-also the engine would start but run on2 or 3 cyls. I found using one heat range hotter than standard plugs helped, esp. around town you seem to have been fairly methodical on your troubleshooting-if you have fuel and spark the next thing to check is comp. -if the plugs are wet it is likely fuel not oil-when I first bought mine it had sat over winter and would not start -it turned out that the valve clearances had closed up enough that it was low on comp. when ridden frequently it was ok but as soon as the oil had drained off the cyl walls it would not start-squirting oil in the cyls. would get it started but I pulled the cams and set valves to solve problem-starts ok now but I don't use the choke-you could lift the cover and check your valve clearances -it would be a good idea on a bike that you just bought-don't give up -be methodical and check one thing at a time-when you get it going it will be worht it

2000 sportster front cylinder backfires

There is probably a small leak in the intake tube to that cylinder. Remove and carefully inspect and reinstall carb and induction manifold.

Had carbs rebuilt and suppose synced but bike starts hard and when running backfires whin you let off the throttle

1. choke circuits still plugged up or carbs not cleaned correctly; most people that attempt to clean their own carbs do not have the proper equipment to do it with. Most carbs have really small orifice(jets) and require really small jet drills/orifice cleaners to clear them out. Cleaning them in a caustic soak tank will clean them out but the carbs must be taken completely apart or it will damage any gaskets or rubbers parts left in it. Carb cleaning should be left to professionals unless one has experience doing it.

2. Open/broken vacuum lines can make it hard to start and backfire when letting off the throttle; jets that are not cleaned out correctly can also make it backfire.

3. If the backside of the inlet grommets are not sealed at the flange and have a vacuum leak, that will cause hard starting and backfire also; this applies to carbs with a flange style grommet. If the intake grommets are cracked or leaking it too will cause hard starting and backfire. Remove the carbs, wipe the head and mating flange surfaces with laquer thinner, let it dry and then reseal the grommets back to the head with rtv silicone rubber. Make sure to wipe any excess rtv(before it drys) from down inside the port before putting the carbs back on.

#3&4 cyl. Have spark and fuel but air idle screws don't do anything. When warming up backfired out exhaust and carbs

Check the valve lash-sounds like valves are tight in those cylinders. Idle air screws won't do anything if the valves are tight, the motor doesn't develop vacuum when the cylinder doesn't seal. And without vacuum, carbs don't work. If the valve lash is within specs, run a compression test, most "rockets" run a minimum PSI of 150 to be within spec. Good luck!

Friend brought me a bike that was running rough! I found two spark plug wires disconnected. I also cleaned up the exterior of the carbs and linkage without removing anything. Now the bike revs to...

Somewhere between the carbs and the cylinder there are air leaks. Cracks in rubber fittings or seals, clamps on hardened rubber manifold material may no longer seal well, intake manifold to cylinder bolts may be loose. A loose spark plug, bad head gasket and burned exhaust valve can let un-carbureted air into the cylinder as well.

I hav a 1995 honda cr 125 it has spark and is getting fuel and wont start but back fires the odd kick, ive replaced ign control, cdi box, rotor and generator, coil and plug

check compression, the valves may need adjustment. also make sure that the carb is clean and that there are no air leaks or you will have trouble. From my experience, 80% of old bike troubles come from the carbs being dirty/clogged. Pull the carb off, disassemble any plastic/rubber parts and BOIL in lemon juice for 20 minutes then rinse and blow out the passages. Reinstall and give it a try. If the valves are out of whack then the piston wont compress the air/fuel mixture and the spark will not ignite the mixture or will ignite it erratically thus getting an occasional backfire. Check valve lash and retry.

Hi,i`ve got a yamaha fz750 1988..and it won`t seem to run on all four cylinders..i took the air box off and while it was running put my hand over each carb one at once and found that on carb 4 it stopped...

Hi JIm,
If it stopped @ 4 tht means thts the only cylinder firing .
Remove the spark plugs, earth @ on the cylinder head, crank start and check for sparks...if its sparking tht means the coils etc. are ok.
As the spark plugs are out exam them to their conditions visit this site for more details :-
http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/technical/diagnosis.htm

From here you would know if its carburator or probably it may need a complete tune up....carburator cleaning, float level..adjustment, valve clearance.. new plugs (gap to specs.), check air filter, replace or fit 'inline' fuel filter thn balancing of the carbs.
Hope this helps!

05 750 brute force missing badly

Just had same problem. Take carbs off and clean all jets and bowl. Be carful front and rear carb have different sized jets. When you put quad back together put entire airbox together even the cover. This quad will backfire unless air box is complete. I bet you anything your carb is full of trash.
