Anytime a bike sits for that long you stand a chance of fuel system problems. It sounds like you may need to "boil out" the carburetors and of course resynchronize them with vacuum gauges when you put it back together. You can also use a mercury manometer for synching the carbs. My guess is you have varnish still in the float bowls that is causing erratic running and perhaps the vacuum operated slides are not working correctly.

Low charging on 85 goldwing fuel injection

The GL1200 Aspencade fuel injection did not come with fuel injection. But a lot of those bikes have been piced togather from outher bikes.

The entire 1200 goldwing line had stator problems. First thing to check is the 3 yellow wires and the connector they have just to the left of the battery. Most people remove that connection and soder it after testing the stator. There is a complete checklist, along with alternative solutions at http://www.gl1200goldwings.com/ If you own a 1200, that is the best self help site for these bikes.

1984 GL1200 Goldwing... 80k mi. ....bike will not run without choke on 1/4 to 1/2 open... when given throttle, the engine backfires and blows black soot out of exhaust... new spark plugs with gap set at...

This sounds like a fuel flow problem. I suggest removing and rebuilding and cleaning the entire system, meaning Carbs, filters and strainers in the tank. Old fuel turns to gel, and floats absorb fuel, sometimes, so inspedt everything. When finished set carbs with carb sticks, both at idle and at 2000 RPM, using hand throttle.

Battery not charging

run an ohm test on the stator wires, make sure you get readings through all combinations of any 2 wires. if you don't get an ohms reading between 2 wires that means you have a broken stator winding and the stator needs to be replaced. hook up a volt meter to your battery and test battery voltage at rest (bike off), at idle (bike on and idling should be at least 12.5 - 13 volts), and steady around 3 - 4000 rpms (should be around 13-14.5 volts. if it exceeds 15 volts your regulator is bad and needs to be replaced. if all numbers are about what I said, have your battery tested. If your battery is over 1.5 years old it should be replaced anyway.
