I could not get the bike to stay running, so I cleaned the carb. Bike fired up and ran great, but then noticed that gas was pouring out the over flow. I have pulled the carb apart again and have come to the conclusion that the needle valve is not seating. Could this be the problem?

I have had several bikes in my time. and keeping the carbs syncranized is very important. Did you put aftermarket pipes on it? try rejeting the carbs up 2+mm that may help the fuel air ratio?

Hole in the float. It fills with gas, sinks and fails to stop the fuel flow

Theres fuel starvation, the carbs are not getting required fuel in other words the float chambers doesnt get the correct amount of fuel .
Check the fuel flow from the petcock to the carburators.
Check the float pin and adjust accordingly to get the right level inthe float chamber of each carburator.
Hope this helps!
