Check your speedometer cable, detach it from the speedometer elevate the front wheel and spin it notice the inner cable if it turns or not, if not replace the cable if it spins then replace the speedometer.
you'll need to check for the speedometer cable (of its analog.) the cable inside it might be broken. Else, i suppose when your chain snapped, it hit the wires connected to the speedometer. might as well check it out. Hope this helps,
You need to replace the speedometer cable. The years of turning inside the protective cable have worn it out. Disconnect both ends and the piece(s) supporting the cable and replace it. Simple and relatively quick too. Happy Riding.
There sounds like there is a problem with your spedometer rotor sensor and you will need to check this out but it will be easier to see from the manual(page 47) and you can download it free here:
it has no cable, it is an electronic speedo, you will need to pull the speedo out and send it out for repair, here is a place that can do the work much cheaper than the dealer. call them.1-888-495-2777
- the speedometer-cable is broken -that happens after some years all of a sudden
- the problem is: it is not easy to fix because you need to remove the instrument panel to get to the upper connector of the new cable going to the speedometer and to replace the complete cable
